  • Role Overview

  • Commuter Coordinators are committed to supporting student life by building community through organizing events, community-building initiatives, and providing mentorship to students with the aim of engaging the commuter population.

    The University of St. Michael's College is committed to developing student leaders who can serve as role models for our student body and ambassadors for the Universities values at large. The Commuter Coordators work to aid in the formation of the whole student, by supporting their personal and social development.

    The Commuter Coordinator program seeks to engage international and domestic commuter students by connecting them to the St. Michael’s community and providing them with opportunities for personal growth that take place outside of the classroom. Commuter Coordinators are committed to supporting student life by organizing events, developing community-building initiatives, and providing mentorship and guidance to individual students.

  • A strong candidate is someone who:

    • has a passion to serve their fellow students
    • has previous leadership experience to lean on, whether this is in their community, the University, their high school or somewhere else
    • must be enrolled as a student at the University of Toronto with a minimum CGPA of 2.5
    • must be entering at least their second year of undergraduate studies

    *Any previous experience planning and facilitating events/initiatives is an asset

  • Summer Commitment Expectations

    • Attend a spring Transition meeting
    • Participate in the St. Michael's College Leadership Retreat Training (May overnight)
    • Participate in Divisional training with Campus Life Coordinator
    • Participation in LEAD Training (including SafeTalk)
    • Participate in Weekly meetings to plan for the year
    • Organize and facilitate a Commuter Orientation to support incoming students transition to university

    Monthly Time Commitment: aprox.10 hours

    Academic Year Commitment Expectations: 

    • Outreach and foster student relationships with all St. Michael’s community members.
    • Host weekly Office Hours in the Commuter Lounge (6 hours/week).
    • Contribute to the maintence and upkeep of the Commuter Lounge (includes but is not limited to cleaning, restocking supplies, and ensuring all Lounge rules are followed).
    • Oversee the Commuter Ambassador program, including training and leadership development.
    • Co-ordinating regular events with the goals of promoting wellness and engaging domestic and International commuters.
    • Contribute to the Commuter Coordinator's Legacy Program: SMCheese.
    • Facilitating outreach with other student life initiatives and clubs to promote collaboration.
    • Attend weekly team meetings (8 hours/month).
    • Support the student life initiatives of other USMC partners (e.g. Campus Ministry, Alumni Affairs, Student Societies, Principal’s Office, etc.) and collaborating on these initiatives when possible.
    • Ensure all USMC rules and policies are upheld when organizing student events (e.g. Conferences, Food Services, etc.)
    • Participate in addition Student Leader Collective Trainings such as the Fall Retreat Day and Winter Retreat Day.
    • Contributing to the Commuter Coordinator Transition Report and attending the Transition Meeting to support the incoming team. 

    Monthly Time Commitment: aprox. 25 hours

  • Commuter Coordinator Compensation

    This position will begin April 2025, and end April 2026.

    In return for your services as a Commuter Coordinator, you will receive:

    • $2000 Honorarium.
