The two Orientation Coordinators will work closely with the Assistant Dean Campus Life to develop a meaningful, informative, and values-based Orientation that will assist incoming St. Mike's students in their transition to university.

The OCs will develop the curriculum, theme, and schedule for Orientation Week as well as manage the marshal and leader teams, and develop supplemental resources to assist First-Year students in their transition to University such as a virtual Orientation course. 

Successful candidates must be highly motivated, responsible and dependable and demonstrate strong organizational and leadership skills. They must be willing to work closely with USMC staff and stakeholders to create an Orientation program that upholds the mission and values of USMC.

Primary Responsibilities:

In conjunction with the Dean of Students Office, OC's will:

• Participate in the selection of Orientation Staff.
• Collaborate with various St. Mike's Offices to coordinate programming across divisions.
• Facilitate training sessions with the Dean of Students Office for all Orientation Staff in addition to participating in the University of Toronto OC & JOLT Training programs.
• Develop a fiscally responsible budget in collaboration with the University of St. Michael's College Director of Finance.
• Cultivate a strong sense of community and St. Mike's identity among Orientation Staff using an effective balance between task achievement and relationship building.
• Effectively delegate tasks to Orientation Staff, holding each member accountable for their assigned duties and deadlines.
• Become First Aid CPR-C and SafeTALK certified.

Time Commitment

This position will begin in late January 2025, and continue until December 2025. 

Between the months of January-March, OC's are expected to work between 1-5 hours per week to attend infrequent planning meetings with the former OC's and Assistant Dean Campus Life.

Between the months of April-May, OC's are expected to work with the Assistant Dean Campus Life, interviewing student staff and planning programming, and offering virtual and in person programming.

June-August OC's are expected to be on campus 2-3 days a week to work collaboratively with co-coordinator and ADCL.

Mandatory attendance at the Senior Student Leader Retreat Camp taking place May 2025 (overnight).

During Orientation Week(s), students are expected to work around 60 hours depending on programming and scheduled events (OC's must be present for the entirety of Move-In Day and Orientation Week(s), August 24th-September 10th 2024)

Following the start of classes OC's are expected to work around 20 hours for the first two weeks of school to complete transitional programming.

Between the months of September-December, OC's are expected to work between 1-5 hours per week to complete debrief documents, plan post-orientation events, and assist in the hiring of the new Orientation Coordinators.

Orientation Coordinator Renumeration

Upon completion of the afformentioned duties, each Orientation Coordinator will receive:

$10,000 honourarium
USMC Student Leadership Apparel
University of Toronto Co-Curricular Record (CCR)

2. How you will integrate the mission and values of St. Mike's into the Orientation experience.

3. A description of your leadership style and examples of your leadership experiences.

4. Proposed ideas and initiatives for Orientation Week that specifically address the Principles of Orientation (as outlined in the first section). These ideas should not be solely focused on theme but may include theme ideas.
