We, the citizens of City , State , have the right to demand accountability from our public officials and ensure justice for our community. This petition seeks to restore independent grand jury oversight, an essential tool to protect our constitutional rights and hold government accountable.

The Fifth Amendment guarantees the right to a grand jury as an institution independent from the judiciary, designed to protect citizens from arbitrary government actions. However, this critical right has been undermined in City , State .

In the 1992 Williams ruling, Justice Scalia affirmed:

“The grand jury is an institution separate from the courts, over whose functioning the courts do not preside… The grand jury serves as a ‘protector of citizens against arbitrary and oppressive governmental action.’”

Yet, in City , State , this principle has been ignored, leaving us vulnerable to unchecked power and corruption.

We demand the following:

The Sheriff’s Office must facilitate citizen-led grand jury oversight, leveraging the Sheriff’s constitutional authority to ensure accountability and justice.
Public officials who fail to uphold their constitutional oaths must be removed from office, as mandated by the Fourteenth Amendment.
Upon removal, immediate elections must be held to appoint leaders who will defend our rights and restore the grand jury system to its intended function.
