• RUFF ROAD REVIVAL FOSTER APPLICATION

  • Thank you for your interest in becoming a foster home with Ruff Road Revival. Please read the foster information below and then answer the following questions to the best of your ability.

    • As a foster parent, you would temporarily take an animal into your home, care for it, and give it love.
    • RRR pays for needed medical attention (at our veterinarian) and necessary supplies (food, crate, etc.) but anything reusable must be returned if you decide to take a break from fostering for us.
    • We ask that you do some basic positive reinforcement/force-free training to help make the pet more adoptable; this may include house training (but if you don’t want to work on housetraining, please let us know and we CAN find a dog that has those skills  - but it could take longer).
    • Most of the animals will be coming from shelters. We ask that you be patient with them and try to help them transition to their new roles as “adoptable dog" in any way needed.
    • Please familiarize yourself with the 3 3 3 rule and the information that we email you once you are approved as a foster as it will help greatly with transitioning foster pets into your home.
    • You can tell us the size, type, age, etc. and we will try to match you to your preference.
    • Because we are a small, hands-on rescue, we need to tap into many of our limited resources whenever a foster situation doesn’t work. Inevitably sometimes a foster placement doesn’t work -  so we all work as a team to optimize everyone’s experience; you are never stuck long term with a dog that isn’t the right fit.

You will be expected to read and know all of the information in our foster agreement at the bottom of this page, so please pay close attention as you read through it. We are excited to work with you and strive to make your experience with RRR a wonderful one! We are always open to constructive criticism so feel free to share if you ever have any. We greatly value our fosters and want to make your foster experience as great as possible.

    * Please type N/A for any questions that do not apply to you/your situation

  • If rent, please include owner's name, phone number, and email

  • If you do have a fenced yard, please describe:

  • Please provide a veterinary reference if you have one. By providing this information, you grant us permission to contact your veterinarian for a reference check. Please call your vet to notify them that Ruff Road Revival will be contacting them for a veterinary reference.

  • Please list three personal references (not a relative or household member) who can vouch for your character as a pet owner.  Please include at least one that you have known for at least three years. Give name, phone number, and email.

  • Reference 1:

  • Reference 2

  • Reference 3

  • Many trainers use “mixed” or “balanced” training methods that are actually rooted in dominance theory, which is an outdated training method that has been debunked by modern behavior science. Take a look at the positive reinforcement information that we send you via email once you are an approved foster.

  • If you were consulting with a training website or television program and it said to use the following methods, which do you believe to be positive reinforcement only techniques? Please check the appropriate box for each example.

  • I understand and agree to the need for screening of fosters.  I certify that the information supplied on this application is true and correct.

  • Foster Agreement

Foster AGREES to care for and love any foster dog or cat given to them by Ruff Road Revival (RRR) as if it were their own.

Foster AGREES to provide the dog/cat with exercise, basic obedience training, and house/litter training.

Foster UNDERSTANDS that all dogs/cats placed in foster care need to be spayed/neutered and vaccinated. If I receive an unfixed dog/cat, RRR may request that I schedule an appointment with a designated RRR veterinarian and assist in transporting the dog/cat to and from the appointment. If I cannot arrange transport, I will contact my RRR representative and assist in any way I can.

Foster UNDERSTANDS that no dog/cat can be adopted before being spayed or neutered unless it is a foster-to-adopt situation approved by RRR.

Foster UNDERSTANDS that all basic medical expenses for each foster dog/cat will be covered by RRR, provided an authorized RRR representative approves the expenses and care is from an RRR designated veterinarian.

Foster UNDERSTANDS that if I choose to go to a vet of my choosing, I may be responsible for the vet bill.

Foster UNDERSTANDS that Ruff Road Revival will provide necessary supplies if the foster informs RRR of what supplies are needed. If RRR does not have the supplies available, RRR will reimburse necessary supplies with prior approval and submission of receipts within 7 days.

Foster UNDERSTANDS reimbursement procedures, and Ruff Road Revival appreciates the foster's willingness to donate toward general expenses such as treats, toys, etc. Crates and other supplies can be lent to foster homes and returned upon adoption.

Foster AGREES to assist in marketing their foster pet online by providing clear photos and a short biography to a RRR representative.

Foster UNDERSTANDS animals must be in foster care for at least two weeks before being posted for adoption, and that foster periods can last weeks to months. Foster AGREES to commit to the foster pet until adoption, or, if unable to continue fostering, to provide at least two weeks' notice to RRR and actively assist in finding a suitable replacement foster.

Foster UNDERSTANDS AND AGREES that any potential adopter MUST be screened and approved by RRR. Foster input will be included, and fosters will be expected to review applications and interview potential adopters. Final placement decisions rest with RRR.

Foster AGREES that prospective adopters may contact them directly.

Foster AGREES to follow safety protocols regarding children and animals and to contact RRR with any concerns.

The following protocols must be followed at all times when children are present in the home with foster animals:

    - Never leave a child unattended with any foster dog or cat.
    - Do not leave bones or high-value treats accessible when children are present.
    - Be observant and cautious when children are eating while the foster animal is in the room, or when the animal is eating and children are nearby.
    - If the foster has any concerns or discomfort about interactions between a foster animal and a child, they must immediately contact Mikayla or an RRR representative for guidance.

Foster AGREES to use caution when introducing new animals and to proceed with slow, gradual introductions, utilizing the decompression guidelines and 3-3-3 rule provided during onboarding.

Foster AGREES to keep each foster dog that comes into my care on a leash when outside my home or my own securely fenced yard, and to never leave the dog unsupervised, even when in a fenced yard.

Foster AGREES to keep each foster cat indoors ONLY.

Foster AGREES to keep any puppies (or adult dogs) that are not fully vaccinated off of ground that has potentially been exposed to parvo (parvo can live for up to nine years on any surface including concrete, but especially grass/soil).

Foster UNDERSTANDS AND AGREES that no foster dog that comes into my care will be allowed to run or play off leash in a dog park or other open public area without prior approval from an RRR representative.

Foster AGREES to immediately notify my RRR contact in the event of a missing or injured foster dog/cat.

Foster UNDERSTANDS that if I decide to adopt a foster dog/cat in my care, I must go through the adoption process, including filling out an adoption application/contract and paying the requested adoption fee. (Adoption fees are used to help cover costs to save and help more dogs/cats.)

Foster UNDERSTANDS that any foster in my care must be kept indoors unless attended outside and will not be kept outside to sleep under any circumstances.
Foster promises to notify RRR if any foster dog/cat in my care is in need of veterinary care such as vaccinations, routine testing, illness treatment, heartworm/flea/tick prevention etc. and to schedule these appointments with an RRR approved veterinarian.

Foster AGREES to make time to return their foster animal to the care of an RRR representative (designated by Mikayla) or have it picked up by said RRR representative without question within 24 hours of RRR making the request.

RRR retains the right to remove a foster dog/cat from my care at any time.

Thank you for choosing Ruff Road Revival! We are thrilled to have you join our foster team and aim to provide you with a wonderful fostering experience.
