I understand that applying does not ensure approval and that untruthful answers or failure to comply with the requirements of this application can result in the forfeiture of any Cumberland County Animal Services animal fostered by me.

I certify that the above information is correct, and I understand that the information will be verified.

By signing and submitting this application, I acknowledge and authorize Cumberland County Animal Services to conduct a background check, as permitted by applicable law, as part of the foster screening and approval process. I understand that the results of any background check may be considered in determining my eligibility to participate in the foster program and may result in the denial or termination of my participation.

Foster Animal Ownership and Care
I understand that the foster animal(s) are temporarily in my care and remain the exclusive property of Cumberland County Animal Services (CCAS).
If a foster animal becomes sick or injured while in my care, I must return the animal to CCAS for evaluation.
If I take a foster animal to an outside veterinarian without prior authorization from CCAS, I am responsible for all related costs and fees.
When the foster animal is ready for adoption, I will return the animal to CCAS for placement.
All adoptions, transfers, rescue placements, and other placements must be coordinated through CCAS.
Foster animals are subject to the same placement guidelines as all other adoptable animals.
CCAS cannot guarantee adoption or rescue placement for every foster animal.
Foster animals that do not receive an adoption or rescue placement may be euthanized.
I agree to allow CCAS to inspect the area where the foster animal(s) will be kept, if requested.
Assumption of Risk and Release of Liability
I understand that working with animals involves inherent risks.
I voluntarily assume all risks of injury, death, property damage, or loss that may result from activities associated with CCAS.
I release Cumberland County, the Cumberland County Animal Services Board, CCAS, and their officers, directors, employees, volunteers, attorneys, agents, board members, insurers, and representatives from liability.
This release includes liability resulting from:
- Injury or death
- Property damage or loss
- An act, omission, failure to act, or negligence
- Any other cause connected with my participation in CCAS activities

I understand that this release applies whether an incident occurs on or off Cumberland County or CCAS property.

Insurance and Financial Responsibility

I understand that Cumberland County and CCAS do not provide volunteers with insurance or workers’ compensation coverage.
I accept full financial responsibility for any injury, death, property damage, or related loss.
This responsibility may include:Pain and suffering, emotional distress, post-traumatic stress disorder, other mental or emotional injury, stress, or trauma

Legal Terms

I understand that this agreement is binding upon me and my heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns.
I understand that this agreement is governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina.
If any part of this agreement is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in effect.
Acknowledgment
I confirm that I have read and understand this agreement and release of liability.
I voluntarily agree to all terms stated above.
