  • POC Collaborative's Diversity in Development program, in partnership with The Fund Raising School, convenes traditionally underserved nonprofit and philanthropic development professionals around shared learning experiences in fundraising and financial sustainability, seeding an organic peer network for its members.

    We are offering four courses in 2026:

    • Planned Giving*

      Learn core strategies for developing and implementing planned giving as part of your overall fundraising approach. The course includes exploration of ethical practices and organizational readiness.  
      • May 20 - 22, 2026  | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM 
    • Principles & Techniques of Fundraising*

      This course provides a solid foundation for effective, sustainable fundraising using key theories and concepts, standards of excellence in practice, and actionable implementation strategies.  
      • July 28 - 31, 2026  | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM 
    • Developing Annual Sustainability*

      Deploy effective practices that enhance organizational capacity by cultivating and retaining donors while reinforcing long-term financial strategies that work.  
      • September 9 - 11, 2026  | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM 
    • Fundraising Campaigns: From Capital to Comprehensive*

      Take a deep dive into the world of capital, endowment, comprehensive, and project-based campaigns. Learn the phases and guidelines related to each unique approach.  
      • October 14 - 16, 2026  | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM 

    These learning tracks ensure nonprofit development teams across the metro area are equipped with the training, resources, and support to meet their various organizational fundraising objectives.

    * Earn your Certificate in Fund Raising Management from Indiana University's Lilly Family School of Philanthropy by completing the four courses indicated above.

    Cost: There is a $100.00 material fee per course. This fee offsets the cost of resources, materials, and meals during our time together. (Note: Our in-person sessions provide over $1,500 in savings!)

      Kickstart your journey into planned giving with this foundational course designed to cover everything you need to know to begin integrating planned giving into your fundraising program. The course also introduces marketing planned gifts, ethical considerations, and steps to get your planned giving program started, along with institutional readiness and action planning.
    • PRINCIPLES & TECHNIQUES OF FUNDRAISING

      Maximize your fundraising success through this timeless course that teaches the tried-and-true practical skills of effective fundraising. Strengthen your fundraising abilities by learning proven fund development strategies to draft specific fundraising plans to grow your organization.

    • DEVELOPING ANNUAL SUSTAINABILITY

      Successful fundraising is an ongoing process. As you continue to identify new donors, you also need to maintain good relations with current donors and encourage them to repeat and increase their giving. Learn and strengthen the fundraising skills that can sustain your organization including direct mail, online giving, major gifts, and special events.
    • FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGNS

      Discover the keys to successfully planning a fundraising campaign. This course explores capital, endowment, comprehensive, and project-based campaigns. You will navigate the decision-making process, considering the "why" and "why not" factors, and uncover intangible benefits for your organization, beyond finances. Learn how to engage stakeholders effectively, utilizing proven strategies and tools to design, implement, and manage campaigns. You will gain practical skills that you can apply within your nonprofit context. There is a $100.00 material fee which covers essential resources, handouts, and meals during our time together.
    • PURPOSEFUL BOARDS, POWERFUL FUNDRAISING *Tentative*

      Fundraising success depends on organization-wide efforts from the leadership of the board to the dedication of front-line staff. This course focuses on the role the board plays in fundraising and how to best structure the organization to support this role. We strongly encourage board members and staff from the same organization to enroll. Teams will work collaboratively to develop an action plan to improve the culture of philanthropy in their organization, improve board recruitment and training, and ensure the organization has a solid case for support.  **We would like to offer this course if there is broad community interest. Please let us know by selecting an option below.**

      Community Agreements are collaboratively defined principles that express our shared intentions, expectations, and ways of engaging with each other. The agreements may evolve as the community grows and changes.

      Proactive Communication. Running late? Notify us of any changes to your plans or attendance.

      Wellness First. Sick? Prioritize your wellness and stay home!  

      Required Attendance. All course sessions are required. If you cannot make that commitment, please do not register. Make-up sessions are not available.

      Mutual Investment. We charge a minimal, non-refundable material fee to help offset the cost of program expenses (facilitators, meals, curriculum, activities, and events) that must be paid in advance.
