  • Essay

  • The La Cañada Thursday Club requires an essay along with your application. Be sure to put your name at the top of your essay.

    • For the Thursday Club Foundation Scholarship, one of the selection criteria is community service. In your essay, please tell us about meaningful community service work you have participated in during your high school years, how you found the service, what you learned about the service work, and if it changed your outlook on life. Do you have any plans to continue with your service in the future and, if so, what do you plan to do?
    • For the Greenawalt Scholarship, your essay should explain a significant ongoing obstacle or hardship which you have had to overcome. How have you dealt with this obstacle/hardship and how have you adapted? What kinds of changes have you had to make in your life and how will you continue to deal with this in the future (specifically, in college)? Examples might be a diagnosed learning disability or long-term health issue that you have had to live with and adjust to.
      • Please note that we are not looking for situations where you have had to deal with a difficult coach or teacher, where you didn’t get a part in the school play or lost a school election. While situations like these might have been difficult for you at the time and you might have experienced some growth from them, they are not ongoing hardships that will be considered for the Greenawalt Scholarship.
