  • 2025 BETTYE LEWIS MAYE SCHOLARSHIP Application One - $2000 Award

    The Friends for Life Foundation, Incorporated (FFLF) is organized exclusively for the purposes of charitable, religious, educational, and scientific endeavors. Its purpose is to support quality of life improvement for the disadvantaged and to financially assist individuals and organizations in our community that enhance education, family, health, economic empowerment, and the arts. The FFLF is pleased to announce our annual scholarship, the Bettye Lewis Maye Scholarship. One, $2000.00 scholarship will be awarded based on academic achievement, leadership, and character. Applicants must meet all the eligibility requirements and the deadline to qualify. The selection process may include a virtual panel interview. The scholarship award will be paid directly to the college on behalf of the student for tuition, fees, or books. The recipient will be recognized at the Friends for Life Foundation, Inc., Heart of Giving Luncheon in November 2025.
  • The Bettye Lewis Maye Scholarship is available to a member of an underserved community, female high school senior. Applicants must meet all the eligibility requirements and the deadline to qualify. The selection process may include a virtual panel interview. The scholarship award will be paid directly to the college or university on behalf of the student for tuition. The recipient will be recognized at the Friends for Life Foundation, Inc., Heart of Giving Luncheon in November 2025. 

    Eligibility for the scholarship: 

    • A female resident of North Fulton County, Georgia, or a 2024 Strands of Elegance Cotillion Debutante residing outside North Fulton County, Georgia,
    • A member of an underserved community, 
    • High school senior with a B average (3.0 or higher),
    • Demonstrate leadership, school and community involvement and character,  
    • Write a 300 to 500 word essay, and 
    • Include two Letters of Recommendation from non-family members (email to scholarships@friendsforlifega.org) prior to the JUNE 30, 2025 deadline. 
  •  MRS. BETTYE LEWIS MAYE

    Mrs. Bettye Lewis Maye is an active member of the Friends for Life Foundation, Inc. She is also a charter member of the Phi Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® and was instrumental in founding the North Fulton County organization in 2001. Mrs. Maye was the impetus behind the FFLF signature rite-of-passage event for young, underserved high school juniors and seniors --The Strands of Elegance Leadership Development and Cotillion Program. The Cotillion is an event of significance throughout the metropolitan Atlanta area. During the 7- to 9-month Cotillion Program the young ladies are expected to become aware of and improve important social, leadership, and life skills. They learn the importance of furthering their education, appreciate and respect their many roles in society, and are inspired to develop a vision for their personal journey to excellence. Mrs. Bettye Lewis Maye is the mother of Ms. Felicia Maye, an Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® member and former FFLF member. Mrs. Maye is the wife of the late, Roland H. Maye, who was always an advocate for youth excellence. Bettye currently resides in McCalla, Alabama and attends the 6th Avenue Baptist Church, Birmingham.

    In 2025, a $2,000 Friends for Life Foundation, Inc. scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior in recognition of Mrs. Bettye Lewis Maye’s commitment to supporting young women.

    • REQUIRED RULES FOR APPLICANTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION PROCESS  
    • Applicants for the Bettye Lewis Maye Scholarship must meet all eligibility requirements as defined in the respective scholarship application.

      Selection criteria or other data used in evaluating applicants will not be shared with them, their parents or any other persons who are not members of the selection process.

      Relatives or associates of the applicant or their family will not be allowed to participate in the application review, interview, or selection process.

      The applicant and parents agree to respect the integrity of the process and the members of the Selection Committee.

      The scholarship award will be paid directly to the college or university on behalf of the student. The scholarship is a one-time award and is non-renewable.
