Urgent action needed: SFMTA is proposing parking meters (or kiosks) on residential streets.
Send an email ASAP and / or SPEAK UP in person Monday, December 2, 5 - 7pm, Moscone Park, 1800 Chestnut St.
What's happening:
As a general rule, parking meters (or paid parking via kiosks) are on commercial streets and not on residential streets, for many reasons. The primary policy distinction is that commercial zones focus on maximizing economic activity and managing high parking demand, while residential zones prioritize the needs and the convenience of residents.
In direct opposition to best practice, SFMTA plans to install parking meters (or kiosks) on residential streets, currently planning on the Marina and the area around Union Street.
Installing parking meters/ paid visitor parking in residential areas will result in the elimination of any free parking for shoppers, diners or visitors to your home. If not stopped now, they will roll this out across San Francisco, drastically reducing the quality of life for San Franciscans.
This policy is bad economics and serves only to continue to inconvenience residents who rely or choose to use their cars in the city.
Please send an email now to protest SFMTA’s latest scheme to make life more expensive and more difficult for San Franciscans.
Please take 1 minute to voice your concerns. You can send as is, or edit, add your own experiences & sign your name.
Also, please join fed up neighbors on Monday December 2 (conveniently the Monday after Thanksgiving when fewer people will be available to show up).
