    2025 NU BETA SIGMA SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

  • Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated was founded on November 12, 1922, by seven educators at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. These visionary women believed in the transformative power of education and established a sorority dedicated to empowering youth through academic support. The Nu Beta Sigma Chapter, founded on June 27, 2020, continues this legacy with a mission to promote diversity within its membership and communities through sisterhood, scholarship, and service. In alignment with its commitment to academic excellence, the Nu Beta Sigma Chapter offers scholarships to deserving students, including students currently enrolled in accredited institutions and high school students planning to enroll in an accredited college, university, or non-traditional program for the upcoming fall semester.   • APPLICANT CRITERIA

    To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:
    • Be a candidate from a High School Graduating Class of 2025 (Be accepted to accredited college or university or non-traditional program), an undergraduate college student from an accredited degree bearing college or university or accredited non-traditional program.
    • Be a New York City resident and be matriculated in a program/institution registered in New York City or New York State.
    • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • DEADLINE & APPLICATION PROCESS

    To complete your application, you must submit the following:
    • A completed Scholarship application form.
    • A  typed 300-500 word personal statement outlining your future academic aspirations.
    • One letter of recommendation from a community leader (i.e., coach, pastor, etc.), teacher, or counselor.
    • An unofficial copy of your current transcript. 
    • Proof of enrollment.

    All applications and supporting documents must be submitted by February 22, 2025 at 11:59pm. Late submissions will not be considered. Ensure all documents are complete and formatted correctly to avoid disqualification.

    The Scholarship Committee of Nu Beta Sigma will review all applications to identify applicants. Applicants who successfully complete, submit, and meet the application criteria will be selected and contacted by March 2, 2025.

    ** Applicants can only apply to one Nu Beta Sigma Scholarship per calendar year and can receive a maximum of two scholarships within two consecutive application cycles.

  • AWARD PROCEDURE

  • Five scholarship recipients will be selected to receive awards totaling $1,000 each. The payment will be distributed in two installments:

    • First Installment: Upon confirmation of the recipient’s matriculation to an accredited college or university.
    • Second Installment: Upon submission of proof of enrollment in the second semester.

    Recipients will receive scholarship awards during the Nu Beta Sigma Greater Women's Empowerment Conference on March 22, 2025. All applicants must be present at the Conference to receive their scholarship award.

  • Please provide a 300-500 word personal statement that highlights your background, experiences, and future aspirations. In your statement, discuss any challenges you have overcome, your achievements, and how this scholarship will help you achieve your educational and career goals. We are interested in learning about your unique journey, what motivates you to succeed, and how you envision your future.

    Format: Typed, single-spaced, 12-font calibri, 300-500 words, PDF format

  • LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION

  • Please provide one letter of recommendation from a community leader (i.e., coach, pastor, etc.), teacher, or counselor which highlights the applicant’s strengths, achievements, and potential for success. This letter should include the recommender’s professional letterhead and signature.
