Why we're asking for this information

As part of our Arts Council funding we have to gather data about who is accessing our programme.

We use these monitoring questions to assess who we're engaging with, and not engaging with. This enables us to ensure we have the right data to make positive change and continuously take steps to be an inclusive space for everyone.

Definitions and categories are often evolving, and they vary depending on the need for data.

We're aware that ethnicity, gender and background can be far more complex and personal than these 'tick box' questions, but we would appreciate your contribution to this data.

What we're doing with this information

All information submitted will be held in compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) 2018. Our privacy policy can be found at www.sva.org.uk/privacy-policy

  • Gender identity

The following questions are about sex and gender. We recognise that sex and gender identity are not necessarily the same thing, however for this purpose we are simply asking about gender identification. There is a 'prefer not to say' option if that feels most suitable for you.
  • Ethnicity

The definitions for ethnicity are based on national standards as set out by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). We've included an option below to self describe, so if you don't see the ethnicity that suits you, feel free to self describe.
  • Disability

We work to the social model of disability. This model was developed by disabled people in the 1970's and states that people are disabled by inaccessible societal structures and environmental barriers. We're asking these questions to better understand the needs of audiences, including understanding where they may be barriers to access.
