  • Before you proceed with the application, please read the information below!

    The following documents are required to apply; you must be able to upload pictures or scans of these documents:

    • Valid driver’s license (this cannot be a learners permit or identification card)
    • Birth certificate
    • Highschool Diploma or GED certificate with test scores, if you are currently in Highschool, a letter of diplomacy
    • DD-214 (if applicable)
    • Motor Vehicle Report (3 year minimum driving record) from the license bureau (only if applying for MES program. This document is not required for the Pipefitting and Plumbing program) You cannot have more than 4 points on your license when applying for the MES apprenticeship.

    *We have a GPA requirement of 2.0 or higher with both a high school diploma and
    GED.

    *If you are a Highschool graduate or are currently in Highschool, we also require official grade transcripts. Being that these must be official, they cannot be uploaded with your application. Please have your school send them directly to us either by mail or email to the addresses below.

    Once all required documents are received, you will be contacted for the application fee of $35. This can be paid via credit card (a service fee of 3% applies to all credit card payments). We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express.

    Once your application is complete, we will proceed with the test and interview process. You will be contacted to schedule.

    Please make sure to read through the application thoroughly as you fill it out.

    We strongly suggest you add any work history you have when prompted.

    There is also a place to upload any other documentation you feel would make you stand out from other applicants. These documents can be letters of recommendation, a resume, certifications or previous work or school documentation that pertains to the trade you are applying for, such as W-2’s or transcripts.

  • IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS - READ CAREFULLY

    To successfully complete the entire application process, you must follow ALL OF THE STEPS below, keep all appointments and meet all deadline dates. Failure to comply with ALL OF THE STEPS will disqualify your application.

    Must be at least 18 years of age. You may apply at 17 but must be 18 years of age to start working if accepted.

    STEP 1. Submit the completed application with the following information.

    1. A copy of your valid state issued Driver's License
    2. If applying for MES, you must provide a Motor Vehicle Report from the license bureau.(Must show any violations and points. No more than 4 points.)
    3. A copy of your birth certificate.
    4. A copy of your High School Diploma, GED Certificate with test scores, or proof pending graduation from high school.
    5. Official grade transcript from your high school. (Original) In a sealed envelope unopened. Must have 2.0 GPA.
    6. A copy of Military Transfer or Discharge Form DD-214, page 4, if applicable.
    7. An application fee of $ 35.00 (non-refundable) payable to the J.A.T.C.
      1. We accept Money order, certified check or credit card (a service fee of 3% applies to all credit card payments) No cash or personal checks will be accepted.
    8. All documents and filled out applications must be submitted by upload, and official grade transcripts must be received by mail or email.

    STEP 2. Successfully complete an aptitude test.

    1. When your completed application is reviewed, you will be given a scheduled date and time to take the test at Local 392 Training Center.

    STEP 3. An appointment for a personal interview with the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee.

    1. If you successfully meet the minimum required test score, you will be given a date and time for your personal interview with the J.A.T.C. This interview will be scored and the score will be placed on a ranking list. 

    STEP 4. You will be required to successfully pass a drug and chemical-screening test to be eligible for employment.

    1. Failure to successfully pass the drug and chemical-screening test will immediately terminate your application.

    FAILURE TO COMPLETE THE ABOVE STEPS WILL DISQUALIFY YOUR APPLICATION

     

    IF YOU ARE ACCEPTED FOR A PROBATIONARY APPRENTICESHIP, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO :

    1. Serve as probationary apprentice for a period of 1 year (minimum of 1700 hours of on-the-job-training).
    2. Serve a 5-year apprenticeship including the probationary period (minimum of 8500 hours of on-the-job-training).
    3. Report for work on a regular basis.
    4. Have reliable transportation to and from the job site
    5. Work under the direction of a journeyman on the job site and perform job duties satisfactorily.
    6. Attend related training classes regularly and maintain an acceptable average in those classes.
    7. Purchase materials for use in related training classes is required
    8. Abide by all rules and regulations of the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee.
    9. Successfully passed a drug and chemical-screening test.

     

    RANKING LIST POLICY

    Your name will remain on the current Ranking List for two (2) years based on your interview date.

  • PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG TESTING AND BACKGROUND CHECK DISCLOSURE CONSENT, AUTHORIZATION, AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY

  • I,         , have applied for acceptance into the Plumbers, Pipe Fitters and Mechanical Equipment Service Local Union 392 Apprenticeship Program for the purpose of training and employment in the plumbing, pipe fitting and mechanical equipment service industry.

    As a condition of participation in the program, I understand and agree that I will be required to submit to pre-employment drug test. I understand that if the report of the test is positive, or if I refuse to submit to testing when requested to do so by the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee, or its representative, I may not be eligible for employment with any contractor under the bargaining agreement with Local Union No. 392, and therefore, I will not be eligible for the program. I hereby authorize and direct any medical review associated with the health care provider to release the report of my drug test to the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee, or its representative.

    I further agree to consent to undergo a background investigation. The background investigation will consist of a SSN Trace (to confirm identity), multiple criminal records inquiries for any contractor signatory with Local 392. The background check will be conducted in accordance with all applicable FCRA and EEOC guidelines as well as any federal, state, and local laws that may apply to the process. I understand that if the investigation indicates a felony conviction for any crime involving weapons or harm to individuals, I may not be eligible for the program. I understand that if the investigation indicates a felony arrest for any crime involving weapons or harm to individuals that has not been adjudicated, my eligibility for the program will be suspended until the matter is adjudicated resulting in no felony conviction on my record. If the matter is not resolved within 90 days from the date on investigation report, I understand that I will have to reapply for the program after that matter is adjudicated. An individual who is determined to be ineligible under this provision may appeal the matter in writing to the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee no later than 30 days of the notification of ineligibility.

    In consideration for the opportunity for employment in the plumbing, pipe fitting and mechanical equipment service industry, I hereby release, acquit and forever discharge the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee, its representatives, Local Union No. 392, The Mechanical Contractors Association, the health care provider, testing laboratory, the background investigation company, and their respective officers, trustees, directors, employees and agents from all liability, claim or cause of action arising from the administration or results of the drug testing program and background check.

  • DUTIES OF AN APPRENTICE

    Duties of an apprentice will require certain visual or audio skills to safely perform required tasks. You must be able to see and hear sufficiently to perform these tasks; or be able to do so with or without accommodation.

    The apprenticeship duties require lifting a certain amount of weight, which may be up to a maximum weight of 50 pounds. These duties may occur anywhere from occasionally to regularly in the performance of apprentice duties. You must be able to lift and/or handle these amounts of weights to perform the functions of an apprentice; or be able to do so with or without accommodations.

    Apprenticeship duties may require driving from place to place. Apprentices are  expected to have a means of transportation to get to any job site. Apprentices must  have a valid, current operator’s license; not be under suspension; and not be subject  to restrictions that would prevent driving during working hours. You must have a  valid operator’s license to perform the functions of an apprentice; or be able to do  so with or without accommodation. If, at any time, the status of your driver’s license  changes, you must notify the JATC immediately. 

    Apprentices must have appropriate communication skills-that is, ability to or in other ways appropriate to the job at issue, communicate-with fellow apprentices, journeypersons, supervisors and others with whom they work and train. You must be able to communicate effectively to perform the functions of an apprentice; or be able to do so with or without accommodation.
