I'm starting a small POD of 6 kids in January. A little about my family. We are a medical freedom family of 6. I have two older kids who attended public school in their school days and are now 27 and 24 years old. Homeschooling was never part of my families educational plan, but here we are! I can say it's truly been a blessing in disguise. Keilani is 13 and in the 7th grade and Jax is 10 and in the 5th grade. Our style of learning so far has been unschooling, project based and experiential hands on learning. I personally struggle with consistency so this is why I'm putting this POD together to teach my children the core fundamental subjects that are important to me.
I only have room for 4 more kids grades 5th-7th or 8th (you know home school is flexible). Just to put it out there my kids are probably not at grade level "standards." So if you have a kiddo that is truly excelling than this isn't the POD for them. January will be a trial to see if I need to split the POD into two or if I can keep it at one POD. It will also be a trial to see if we need to adjust hours, subjects, kids or teachers. I'm new at this whole POD thing so it will be a learning curve.
POD Location: Vista
Days: Monday & Wednesday
Time: 10:00-12:00 (possibly extended)
Subjects: Language Arts and Math/ Economics possibly social studies and history
One of the teachers I found so far is a Charlotte Mason style teacher (This is new to me). The other teacher is was a public school teacher and ended up jhomeschooling her own children.
The curriculum I chose was IEW, Fix It Grammar, Learn Math Fast, Math games, Whatever Happened to Penny Candy, Our 50 states.
All of this could be adjusted I am in the process of working this out. There are alot of gears that need to align do this all runs smooth.
My end goal with my kids is that they know how to research, know how to write a paper, know proper grammar, have the foundational math skills down and understand their money and how to budget and have basic entrepreneurship knowledge.
Cost: Will be no more than $300 a month. I'm still crunching the numbers and structuring everything. Looking for a teacher that accepts PCA funds.
I'm also open to becoming a vendor.
Homework: No homework unless there is something they need to prepare to present or maybe read to get through a book.
Faith Based teachings: Most of the teachers Ive interviewed are Christian. There may be times that they reference things based on her faith. There will not be bible study and curriculum will not be picked based solely on being a faith based curriculum. We will leave faith based studies to you and your family.
I'm still in the process of interviewing teachers and families that will vibe with our family and be respectful to each other and the teacher. If you know of an amazing teacher and or families that would be interested please forward them to my website to fill out an application.
