STEMSEAS Application 2025

This application is for the special 2025 Cyber STEMSEAS expedition only!

During this immersive 10-day experience aboard R/V Sikuliaq, participants will:

Live and work aboard a state-of-the-art research vessel
Engage with a vibrant community of like-minded students and professionals passionate about cybersecurity and maritime science
Explore and gain hands-on experience with the following topics:
- Cyberinfrastructure
- Cybersecurity at Sea
- Cyber Incident Response
- User Authentication
- Scientific Data Operations: From collection to aggregation and the complete data lifecycle
- Data Protection: Backup strategies and ensuring data integrity.

Eligibility:

Must be at least 18 years old and enrolled in or accepted to a U.S. accredited institution of higher learning (2-year or 4-year)
Must be comfortable in a somewhat unpredictable environment
Must be in generally good health and meet all shipboard medical requirements
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time (generally fit, no need to be a super athlete)
Must be able to work outdoors and in close quarters at sea

If you are selected, most travel and expenses to Honolulu and from Seward will be covered. You will need to have a small amount of funds to pay for local transportation/taxis/shuttles and meals up front; you will be reimbursed for these after the expedition.

The application process is competitive. If you are a finalist, we will be in touch with you within a month of the deadline to schedule a Zoom interview.
