  • Lonergan M.A. Scholarship Application 2025-26

  • Full or partial M.A. Scholarships are awarded to students interested in furthering their understanding of the work of Bernard J. F. Lonergan, S.J.

    Eligibility is contingent upon acceptance into the graduate programs of the Master of Arts in Philosophy or the joint Master of Arts in Philosophy and Theology at Boston College. Your application for a Lonergan Scholarship will not be considered until you have been accepted into the graduate program in Philosophy or the joint program in Philosophy and Theology. We also consider second-year M.A. applicants at Boston College when the student has demonstrated interest in Lonergan studies.

    To apply for a scholarship, please fill out the application below and include as an attachment at the end of the application a 500-word letter of interest. The letter should be addressed to Dr. Jeremy Wilkins, Director of the Lonergan Institute, and include the following information: (I) a statement of desire to be considered for a Scholarship award; (II) a description of your academic interests, including how you came across the work of Bernard Lonergan and your specific area of interest in Lonergan studies; and (III) the name of someone who is willing to recommend you for graduate work in Lonergan studies.

    Decisions will be announced by May 1.

  • III. M.A. Scholarship Requirements

  • If offered a Lonergan Scholarship, M.A. Scholars are required to take one course each academic year (usually at least two courses over time spent on the degree) on Lonergan or taught by Lonergan studies faculty in philosophy or theology. In addition, Loenrgan M.A. Scholars are expected to attend Lonergan Institute sponsored events and lectures.
