Volunteer Statement
A volunteer is an individual or group performing tasks for the Eaton Rapids Area District Library (ERADL) without compensation. Volunteers complement the work of paid staff, providing valuable support through duties such as shelving materials, assisting with programs, and more. Volunteers work an average of 3 to 6 hours per week and must be at least 14 years old.

Volunteers are required to complete an application and waiver, and those under 18 must have parental consent. Background checks may be conducted depending on the role, with the library covering the cost. Volunteers are trained by library staff, ensuring they understand their responsibilities, library policies, and safety protocols.

While volunteering, individuals are expected to uphold ERADL’s values, including confidentiality, professionalism, and excellent customer service. Volunteers may not operate public service desks independently, handle financial transactions, or provide reference services.

Termination of volunteer service may occur for policy violations or failure to meet job expectations. ERADL reserves the right to dismiss volunteers who engage in inappropriate behavior, violate confidentiality, or fail to adhere to library policies. Volunteers seeking to end their commitment should provide two weeks' notice.
