  • Hester Rogers Ray was a pioneering figure in the early history of Middle Tennessee State University (originally Middle Tennessee Normal School), where she began teaching fine arts and art education upon the school's opening in 1911. She served as Chair of the art department until her retirement in the 1940s, during which she played a vital role in shaping the program and nurturing future artists. Ray's lasting impact on art education is recognized through the Hester Rogers Ray Art Education Scholarship, which supports students pursuing degrees in art education at MTSU. Her legacy continues to inspire generations of art educators and students.
