GENERAL INFORMATION

REQUIREMENTS: Riders must have a SWDA membership to qualify for any awards given. The show will use WDAA/WSDAC tests and WSDAC rules.
RIDER VIRTUAL REQUIREMENTS: (as per WSDAC Rule Book)
2) Competitors
a) Use arenas that are as near as possible to regulation size and be sure letters
are set appropriately to be viewed by the judge. Cones with large letters on
them and poles on the ground to delineate the corners are acceptable.
Competition ring MUST not have any obstacles.
i. Intro and Basic can use a 20 x 40 metre arena or 20 x 60 metre arena
ii. Level 1 through Level 5 must use a 20 x 60 metre arena
iii. All Freestyles are in a 20 x 60 metre arena
b) Videos of tests must be unedited from start to finish, including the equipment,
attire, and bit check. There must be one continuous recording with the horse
and rider visible at all times.
c) Videos must be filmed in LANDSCAPE orientation.
d) After entering the arena, prior to beginning the test, a CLASS INFORMATION
SIGN must be held up showing:
i. the name of the show
ii. date of the show (last day videos are accepted)
iii. Rider name and horse’s name and test
Remove the sign just before beginning the ride. Please make sure that all
information is clear and easy to read for the judge. The videographer can hold
the sign then move back to behind the camera or hold the sign in front of the
camera at arm’s length while also holding the camera.
e) Keep the horse in video frame, paying close attention to the near corners. You
may zoom in slightly on the far corners. Videos must be in focus.
f) Make sure to keep the test ring letters in the frame which are elements of the
test being performed.
g) As soon as the test is finished, the camera must slowly circle the horse and
rider showing all equipment and attire, including spurs and the whip if used. If
the videographer is unable or unwilling to enter the arena to do the filming, the
rider may turn the horse at G slowly, wait five seconds, then turn slowly to
show the second side, and wait an additional 5 seconds to complete filming of
the equipment.
h) Drop the bridle and hold it so it does not obscure the curb strap or curb chain.
Demonstrate that the curb strap or chain is flexible and is at least 1⁄2 inch
wide. Make sure the judge can see all parts of the bridle, including bit and
reins clearly.
i) The test may be called.
j) Coaching during the test is NOT permitted.
k) The natural background sound for the test must be audible. Tests with no
sound at all will be eliminated.
l) Bridle or saddle pad numbers are not permitted.
m) Ridden tests may be submitted to ONLY ONE online show. A video of a
test/ride from another competition that has already been judged will be
eliminated. Any video suspected of having been filmed during another
competition will be eliminated.
n) All classes must be designated with a unique class number; no horse may be
ridden more than once in any western dressage class with the same class
number, including TOC (Test of Choice) classes.
o) Non-compliance with the above guidelines will cause the test to be eliminated.
p) Freestyles must have music in the background but not digitally added to the
video itself.
q) Show Management will review all submissions to ensure adherence to the
guidelines as stated above. If a test is submitted that does not comply with
these guidelines, Show Management will contact the exhibitor. If there is time
before the video cutoff, a competitor may be allowed to redo the test and
resubmit the video. There are no refunds if the video is not acceptable and the
deadline has passed.
r) Mathematical errors in scoring of tests are discussed in WSD 13.02
ENTRIES: Entries must be in the hands of the show secretary by 5:00 pm March 27, 2025. Entries will not be processed without payment. All entries must be made by Jotform and signed by rider. The parent or legal guardian MUST sign entries of all JUNIOR riders and junior’s birthdate must be provided. A separate entry form must be filled out for each horse/rider combination.
ENTRY FEE POLICY: Riders that have a SWDA Membership will pay $5.00 less per classes entered at this show.
OFFICE FEE: There will be a $30 office fee charged.
LATE ENTRIES: Entries received after the closing date WILL be assessed a $25 late fee per day after the entry closing date. Additional classes may be added, at posted rate(s), to your entry without such penalties for 7 days.
CHANGES/CANCELLATIONS: are allowed up to the deadline date of January 30. After the deadline date of entry, you will be responsible to remit payment for entries regardless of changes/cancellations made. Please send any changes and payments to saskwesterndressage@gmail.com.
REFUNDS: There will be no refund on entry fees after the official closing date of entries, except with a veterinary certificate stating that the horse will be unable to show during for this show, or a doctor’s certificate in the case of participants. OFFICE FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. If SWDA cancels the show due to unmanageable circumstances, the office fees will be held and all other fees will be refunded.
HELMETS: Junior competitors are required to wear an approved ASTM/SEI helmet while riding in the tests. Senior riders are permitted to wear cowboy hats or helmets as per WSDAC rules.

Cruel, abusive, or inhumane treatment of a horse at any SWDA competition by an exhibitor, owner, trainer, or other person will not be tolerated under any circumstances. SWDA supports any decision of officials or show committees that remove a horse from competition due to obvious lameness or exhaustion. Cruelty can be defined as intentionally causing pain or unnecessary discomfort to a horse. The standard by such conduct or treatment will be measured is that which a reasonable person, informed and experienced in generally accepted equine training and exhibitions procedures, would determine to be cruel, excessive, or inhumane.
AWARDS: All classes are offered as Open, Amateur and Gaited with Junior divisions. Ribbons awarded to 4th place. Series awards may be determined at a later date by SWDA Board.
TESTS: Walk/Walk, Introductory, Basic, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4 tests will be offered at this show. Gaited horses are welcome.
AS PER WSDAC RULES, A HORSE MAY COMPETE IN ANY TWO (2) CONSECUTIVE LEVELS with MAXIMUM NUMBER OF TESTS IN EACH LEVEL LISTED BELOW:
Level 1 and Basic to a maximum of 4 tests, Level 2 and Level 3 to a maximum of 3 tests, and Level 4 to a maximum of 2 tests.
CLASSES OFFERED: All tests in each level will be offered at this show.
