Allow West University Citizens to VOTE on upcoming Extensive City Facilities Rebuild & Teardown Plans
  • The West University mayor and council members (with the exception of John Montgomery) authorized the rebuilding and relocation of four buildings: the Municipal Building, Senior Center, attached Auditorium, and the Library (currently on Auden). The new Municipal Building would be on Rice and Auden, and the remaining three buildings would be constructed on College and Milton next to the scenic (not) water tanks (the library will no longer be across the street from the school where kids currently safely walk to all year long). Then these currently existing perfectly functional and right-sized buildings would be demolished. West University residents were not given the opportunity to vote on these extreme multimillion dollar plans.  But, because of this Petition and your comments, residents will now be allowed to vote on this issue, sort of.  The library, senior center and attached auditorium are grouped together as Proposition D.  Propositions E and F were decided on by the mayor and most council with NO citizen vote.  Your support and outcry has made a difference, and at least we will have the opportunity to vote against the destruction and terrible relocation of these fully functional city buildings. Our city buildings can be saved by voting NO to Proposition D on May 3, 2025.  Early voting is from April 22-29, 2025.

This project and it's associated costs will be well over 70 million; imagine what that will do to your tax rate.  The water tanks on Milton will under go accelerated restructuring FIVE years earlier than needed just to accomodate this rebuild. The city is fixing what isn't broken and neglecting what is!

Additionally, the West U Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is 43 years old and in its end-of-life stage. As per the third-party engineer, Kimley Horn, the plant is rated as POOR in many areas and suffers from cracks, erosion, rust, and outdated obsolete technology and purification methods. West U city government deemed that infrastructure work was critically needed two years ago. They did not act on the most recent bid to do this crucial work; instead, they let it expire and and are prioritizing the needless relocation and rebuild of city structures. They will be doing piecemeal repairs to the WWTP instead of the recommended single-phase repair.  The WWTP is a VITAL service that affects every West University Place citizen. It should be our first priority.

Please sign this Petition to request that the mayor and city council LISTEN to West University Citizens regarding these extensive and extremely expensive building plans. On May 3, 2025, if you want to save our city buildings, you can VOTE NO to Proposition D.  Scan QR code to fill out online, or fill in the below, photograph, and email kbryan@gmail.com. Early voting is from April 22-29, 2025.
