The Barnabas Bursary is money designated to sponsor training for people churches have identified for present or future pastoral leadership. This is not an "aspiring leader" award for promising 18-year-olds, nor professional development for existing pastors. Recipients will be mature students with the gifting to be a pastor and the calling of their congregation. Each conference will nominate one recipient each academic year.
The conference and SBC will each contribute 1/3 of tuition costs and invite the home congregation to do the same. After discussion with potential churches and pastors, the conference leader will nominate its recipient using this form.
Recipients need a clear sense of calling and purpose while studying. These students are committed to returning to their congregation to serve after SBC. The funding will last until graduation or for five years, whichever comes first.
