Since 2017, the City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities has made it easier for residential property owners to replace lead water service lines. To date, the City has been awarded federal and state funding assistance of $2.5M that has been provided to residential property owners to have those private lead service lines replaced. The goal is to meet the Environmental Protection Agency mandate and work collectively to eliminate water service lines that are made of lead by 2037.
While Richmond’s current funding allocation has reached capacity, the next funding cycle is anticipated to open in Spring 2025. Please note that 2025 applications will prioritize disadvantaged and vulnerable populations in accordance with federal guidelines.
