Sponsors:
In addition to being a club member in good standing for a minimum of 1 year, Sponsors should have sufficient personal contact with the applicant; face-to-face association is preferred, rather than slight acquaintance or long distance communication only. Sponsors are to vouch for the applicants’ character, ethics, sportsmanship and treatment of dogs in their care. Casual relationships based solely on social media must also include secondary contact (telephone conversations, home checks, meeting at a show, etc.) Whenever possible the Sponsor or another IHCUS member on their behalf should make a visit to the applicant’s home.
Applicants seeking Sponsors are encouraged to contact the Membership Committee who will attempt to network on their behalf by locating IHCUS members in their region.
Applicants applying for Foreign Membership do not need sponsors. Foreign Membership is open to those who do not reside in the United States or its territories and who are entitled to all membership privileges except the right to hold office and the right to vote in elections, or on amendments to the bylaws, revisions to the breed standard or to sponsor or vote on membership applicants.
Process:
- The Membership Committee will review applications and sponsorship forms for completeness and forward their findings to the IHCUS Board of Directors.
- Applicant names will be published in the next quarterly issue of the Club newsletter, The Third Eye.
- Upon approval of the pending IHCUS Bylaws revision, applicant names will be submitted to the IHCUS membership for feedback via email rather than in The Third Eye. The IHCUS membership will have 14 days to respond with any feedback.
- The Board of Directors will vote on applications three weeks following publication in the Third Eye.
- Upon approval of the pending IHCUS Bylaws revision, The Board of Directors will vote on applications at the next meeting following the closure of the membership feedback period.
- The Membership Chair will notify applicants the status of their membership following the Board vote.
Submission of the application constitutes agreement that the information contained in the application form will be made available for review by IHCUS members and that IHCUS will solicit information from references.
Application Fees:
An initiation fee of $25.00 per application (non-refundable) is required plus the first year’s membership dues (refundable should an applicant be denied membership). Annual dues are $40.00 per individual and $25.00 for each additional person living at the same household seeking membership.
