  • ESPGHAN intestinal ultrasound (IUS) hands-on qualifying program

Aim: to provide high quality and comprehensive intestinal ultrasound skills for paediatric gastroenterologists for performing a standardized and effective bed-side examination for the paediatric patient.

ESPGHAN structured a 3 steps qualification program consisted of 3 steps:

    Step 1:

Online theoretical introduction to IUS in the paediatric patient (3-4 hours). To be performed within a month prior to the hands-on event.

A hands-on event of two half days. The selected participants will participate in numerous hands-on sessions in small groups with real patients, led by ESPGHAN IUS experts.

    Step 2:

Hands-on practice (at least 40 examinations) in an ESPGHAN approved qualifying center.

    Step 3:

An advanced hands-on workshop including a qualifying theoretical and bed-side examinations.

A formal ESPGHAN certificate will be provided upon completion of each step and following successful completion of the entire qualification.

We offer a full step 1 course (theoretical and hands-on) to be performed during the ESPGHAN annual meeting in Helsinki.

The meeting will accommodate 2 groups of 25 delegates (divided into small groups of 5) with each having a 3-hour online course 2 weeks prior to the meeting and a 6 hours practical hands-on experience during the meeting, separated by 4 hours (group 1- Thursday afternoon, group 2- Friday morning) and another 2 hours (group 1- early Friday afternoon, group 2- late Friday afternoon).

Participants will be selected based on the time of registration, accessibility to an ultrasound machine (including a commitment letter) and national/center diversity.
