    IMPORTANT NOTICE

Filing an extension allows additional time to FILE your tax return. It does NOT allow additional time to PAY any balances due.

Extension Requests Submitted Through This Form After April 1st (or March 1st for entities) are not Guaranteed to be Timely Filed.

If you file an Application for Extension by April 15 for individuals and March 15 for certain entities, you can avoid the penalty for failing to file your tax return and your filing deadline will be extended to October 15 for individuals and September 15 for certain entities. If, after requesting an extension, you fail to file your return by the extended deadline, you will incur a failure to file penalty. If you have a balance due and fail to pay it by the original tax deadline (April 15/March 15, not the extended deadline), you will incur penalties and interest for failing to pay on time. The deadline to pay is NOT extended when you file a request for an extension.

In order to complete the Application for Extension form correctly, we must know the estimated total amount of your tax liability as well as the amount of your tax withholdings and any tax payments you made for the applicable year. The estimate must be "reasonable" or the extension may be deemed null and void, which may result in penalties and interest charges to you.

In this form, you may request that your tax preparer estimate your balance due for you and/or provide you with payment vouchers. (Fees may apply). If you submit this form without making that request, we will file the extension using the information you provide, which, if incorrect, may result in penalties and interest charges to you. If you require assistance or have questions, you should speak to your tax professional prior to completing this form. Extension requests submitted to us after April 1st (or March 1st for certain entities) are not guaranteed to be timely filed.

If you are a resident of Kansas City or are a non-resident who works within the city limits and the City tax has not been withheld, you will need to send an extension form to the City of Kansas City in order to request an extension. See link below.

Only one extension request may be made per submission of this form. If you are filling this out on behalf of an entity, you must complete the form again to request an extension for any related individual returns. Confirmation emails will be sent to you upon the extension filing. If you do not have a confirmation email, contact our office to verify the extension was filed.

Martin Tax & Financial Services will not be responsible for any penalties or interest charges that you incur. By proceeding with this form, you acknowledge that you have read and understand this Important Notice. If you have concerns about filing an Extension, contact your tax professional. You can reach us at 816-224-2560.

By submitting this form, you are confirming that you have read and that you understand and agree to all of the terms and conditions set forth herein and elsewhere within this form (including but not limited to the "Important Notice") and you are requesting that Martin Tax & Financial file an Application for Extension of Time to File on your behalf using the information you provided herein. If requested above, we will contact you before filing the extension, otherwise, we will not contact you unless we need additional information. If we do contact you for additional information, you must respond promptly and prior to the time our office closes on the tax deadline or we will not be able to file your Application for Extension. If you are a new client to our firm, we will not be able to file an extension for you without more information. Submission of this form does not confirm that your extension has been filed with the IRS. You will receive a separate, formal confirmation by email once the extension has been filed. Please allow seven business days for the extension confirmation to arrive (unless the tax deadline falls before that time). If you have not received the confirmation at least 72 hours prior to the tax filing deadline, contact us by phone immediately. Until you receive an email confirmation of your extension, you cannot assume one has been successfully filed on your behalf. Martin Tax & Financial Services will not be liable for any penalties or interest you incur. Extension requests made after April 10th are not guaranteed to be filed. An extension to file your tax return does not extend the time to pay any taxes owed. If you anticipate owing taxes, you are advised to make an estimated tax payment by the original due date of your return to minimize potential penalties and interest. If you need assistance in estimating your balance due prior to filing your Application for Extension, you must select "Contact Me/Request Assistance" in the previous drop-down box (click "Previous" to go back, if needed). By signing below, you acknowledge and agree to the terms outlined above and understand that submitting this request is not an assurance that an extension has been filed or that your tax balance due will be deferred. A separate form submission is required for each tax return for which an extension is requested.
