    FUNDING OPPORTUNITY

    Freedom House is seeking to support initiatives that foster dialogue among justice sector stakeholders, promote access to justice, and strengthen civic oversight in Moldova. Justice sector reform is a society-wide effort, and civil society plays a critical role as an effective advocate and partner for inclusive and accountable justice. Freedom House will provide a grant of up to $10,000 to one civic initiative aimed at building public pressure for justice sector accountability and transparency. The selection committee will give preference to initiatives that support the interests of marginalized or vulnerable communities and/or demonstrate coordination with other civil society actors.

    EVALUATION CRITERIA

    • Feasibility – does the applicant clearly demonstrate the capacity to implement proposed activities?
    • Engagement – is direct engagement with decision-makers and citizens from diverse backgrounds a central component of the proposal?
    • Publicity – does the proposal involve a publicity component and society-wide advocacy?

    ELIGIBILITY

    Non-profit organizations, initiatives, and groups active in the Republic of Moldova are eligible for participation in this program. Individuals, government, or quasi-government bodies are not eligible for funding.

    AWARD INFORMATION

    Selection decisions will be made by January 31, 2025. Proposals may cost up to $10,000. Selected organizations will receive up to 9 months of financial assistance beginning in March 2025, and will work closely with and report to Freedom House staff on funded activities for the duration of the grant period.

    Provide a detailed description of the project. The following questions and criteria should be considered and described in the project description:

    1. Project goal(s) and objective(s);
    2. Description of how the project will build public pressure for justice sector accountability and transparency;
    3. How the project plans to support the interests of marginalized or vulnerable communities;
    4. Description of specific activities to be conducted;
    5. Project partners (if any) and plans for plans for coordination with other civil society actors;
    6. Challenges and risks;
    7. Expected impact and results as well as how you will measure your results and impact.

    2. Budgets must cover a project period of up to 9 months.
    3. Expenditures need to be realistic and should not exceed average costs for similar activities where they are to be conducted.
    4. The proposed project budget needs to account for all relevant taxes and social contributions.
    5. The proposed budget may include the limited purchase of essential equipment necessary to meet the project’s goals.
