Prerequisites include: (1) admission to candidacy in an approved teacher licensure program in secondary education, (2) GPA thresholds, (3) required coursework, (4) consent of the instructor and the Council of Teacher Education (CTE). Field Experience Placement
During ED432, students participate in field experience for 60+ hours over the course of the semester. Students can list their preferred geographical region below. Please note that these preferences will be taken into account for your field experience placement, but are not guaranteed. Students are placed in schools with quality mentor teachers in CPS high schools where UIC has established partnerships. When approaching your observation hours this semester, consider the fact that CPS spans over 200 square miles and includes over 100 high schools. The average commute time in Chicago is over 30 minutes, and it is likely that your commute will reflect this average. Organizing these placements takes a tremendous amount of time and energy, as teachers and principals agree to welcome UIC Teacher Candidates into their schools and classrooms and take on the work of mentoring future teachers. For these reasons, once a school placement is assigned, it will not be changed. Students will be notified of their field placement once ED 432 begins.
Rank in order, with top choice being most preferred, the area of the city that you would like to complete your field experience.
