    PURPOSE

    The Broward County Section of NCNW provides scholarship funds to financially deserving high school graduating female students, selected based on academic performance and volunteer service, who plan to attend Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The purpose of the scholarship funds further the empowerment of young women in unlocking lifelong opportunities, fostering personal and academic growth while contributing to a more educated and prosperous community.

    The Broward County Section of NCNW's recognition of excellence in academics and a commitment to service is reflective of the mission in advocating for and uplifting women of African descent, their families, and communities through education, leadership, and opportunity.

  • SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Consideration will be given to graduating seniors who meet the following criteria:

    • Female, 12th grade student, enrolled in a Broward County School
    • Broward County resident
    • Unweighted cummulative GPA of 3.0
    • Minimum of 50 recorded service hours
    • Acceptance to an Historically Black College and University (HBCU)

    The scholarship recipient(s) will be announced after review of all applications and completion of the interview process. Recipient(s) will be notified by email, mail and/or during their high school awards night program, or at an event that the Broward County Section of NCNW deems appropriate.

    Scholarship funds will be awarded directly to the student upon proof of admission and enrollment in the college or university.

  • APPLICATION DEADLINE

  • Applicants must meet eligibility requirements. All eligible applicants will be interviewed by a panel before selection.

    Incomplete applications will not be considered.

    Submitted materials will not be returned.

    The documents listed below, are required and must be included for the application to be considered:

    • Essay:
      • In 500-750 words, describe your future academic and career goals and how receiving this scholarship will support your journey toward achieving them. Reflect on how your aspirations align with one of the National Council of Negro Women’s (NCNW) key focus areas: social justice, health equity, STEM, or economic empowerment and entrepreneurship.
      • Use a standard 12 point font such as Times New Roman or Arial.
    • Professional headshot (Yearbook photo is acceptable)
    • One signed letter of recommendation on official letterhead from any one of the following:
      • A teacher
      • School official (guidance counselor, BRACE advisor, administrstor, coach etc.) 
      • Community Leader
      • Religious Leader/Official
    • Copy of ACT, SAT, or CLT scores
    • Verification of FAFSA Estimated Family Contribution (EFC)
    • Proof of acceptance to an HBCU
    • A current official transcript 
    • Completed and signed application
  • The application deadline is March 14,2025. The applications must be submitted electronically or postmarked via U.S. postal mail no later than March 14,2025.
