Music we Offer

Bluegrass - Our program was founded as a bluegrass program orgiginally. This music normally features some combination of fiddle, banjo, guitar, dobro, mandolin and bass. It can be high energy with singing. Click here to see one of our bluegrass bands performing (please note this will not be the band you will be hiring):
Old-Time - Old-time music often uses the same instrumentation as bluegrass and can include high-energy dance music, thoughtful songs, contemplative ballads, and more. Students often play music from the golden era of country music and are challenged to make modern music that is inspired by tradition. Bands typically have guitar, fiddle, banjo and bass, but may also include autoharp, mandolin, and other instruments. Celtic (Scottish/Irish music) - Celtic bands in our program are part of the Scottish and Irish Traditional Music Program at ETSU. These bands are eclectic and feature traditional ballads, songs, and tunes played on a variety of instruments that might include bouzouki, fiddle, accordion, bagpipes and more.
Country - ETSU Country Bands span the golden era of classic country, contemporary hits, and the timeless dancehall sound that defines East Tennessee’s musical heritage. Country bands play everything from honky-tonk anthems and heartfelt ballads to boot-stomping western swing, Bakersfield-style country, and modern country chart-toppers, as well as original songs. These are some of our most dynamic ensembles, with an Instrumentation that includes electric and acoustic guitars, drums, keyboard, fiddle, and vocals.
