      Community Cleanups

Want to host a community cleanup? The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will provide the tools and resources to support your event. If your cleanup location is in a park, go to the Montgomery Parks Volunteer webpage linked below.
    • Things to Note:

      1. If your cleanup location is in a park, go to the Montgomery Parks Volunteer webpage.
      2. To ensure we can assist with providing supplies and volunteer recruitment, you must complete this application at least one month prior to your cleanup event.
      3. DEP provides support for community cleanups on County property and/or County right-of-ways. We will also consider private community space if event organizers obtain written permission from the property owner.
      4. Accepted events will receive garbage and recycling bags, gloves, and litter grabbers. DEP can help with volunteer recruitment. Following the event, DEP can provide trash and recycling pickup at the nearest County right-of-way to your cleanup location.
      5. DEP does not guarantee its support until after an application is accepted.
      6. Applicant must be 15 years of age or older.

      Plogging

What is plogging? It started as a fitness trend in Sweden! People picked up trash while jogging to better enjoy their route. Want to plog? We are encouraging people to pick up trash individually in an area you choose (maybe where you already go for a walk?) by providing free supplies. We cannot provide SSL hours for this opportunity.
