2025 Ag Literacy Week: March 17th-21st
  • In March 2024, over 50 volunteers from the agricultural community read to 206 classrooms and over 3,200 students across Chautauqua County in an effort to increase Agricultural Literacy. Agricultural Literacy Week is a celebration of our county’s heritage and our number one industry that works to produce healthy, local food 365 days a year!

  • We need your help!

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County would like your assistance in acquiring funds and volunteer readers.

By making a donation, you will help our county provide books to area schools along with classroom guides and activities, as well as funds to support the continuation of this program! Please complete the form below and return it by March 3rd, 2025.

This year we are asking for donations of any amount to cover the entire program. ALL donors will be recognized in EVERY book! Our fundraising goal is $1,000 to have a successful outreach effort.

  • The selected book for 2025 is "The Pie That Molly Grew", written by Sue Heavenrich, and illustrated by Chamisa Kellogg. Beginning with the planting of a single seed, join Molly on the journey of bringing a pumpkin to harvest. Under Molly’s watchful eye and care, each stage of growth – from the seed to the sprout to the leaves to the final fruit on the vine – is showcased. At the end, Molly’s lovely pumpkin is turned into a delicious pie for one and all to share in a celebration of gratitude, all from the seed that Molly sowed!

The book selected for the 2025 Agricultural Literacy week is featuring the honorable work of New York author Sue Heavenrich. Based in Tioga County, Sue is a lifelong lover of biology, gardening, and reading. A teacher of many sorts, Sue especially loves telling stories about the science she sees in her backyard, or in this case, her garden!
