Opening Minds 2025 Artist Application
In partnership with The Bunker SLO and SLO County Arts, Transitions-Mental Health Association (TMHA) invites people of all ages to submit art inspired by personal journeys towards mental wellness for the annual Opening Minds Art Show. The exhibit will take place in May to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Month, celebrating the connection between mental health and identity through the power of creative expression.

Applications are open until March 24th, 2025.

Artists will be notified of selection by April 8th.

Submission Guidelines
- Artists may submit up to three (3) works.
- Works must be original and in any two- or three-dimensional medium.
- Works must relate to the exhibit theme of "Unveiling the Mind: Mental Health's Impact on Identity".
- Three-dimensional art must be able to hang on the wall, with a weight limit of 30 lbs., and have a depth of no more than 6 inches.
- Works must not exceed 6’ x 6’ in dimensions.
- All works must be complete and ready to hang (professionally framed/wired or gallery-wrapped with painted sides).
- All works must be available for sale and not exhibited on the Central Coast in the past two years.

For each piece submitted, please include the following information:
- Title
- Sale price
- Complete dimensions (including frame for framed work)
  - 2D work- Height x Width
  - 3D work- Height x Width x Depth
- Medium used
- Description of piece

Artist Statement & Profile
An artist statement is piece of writing by you that helps the audience access or understand your artistic work. It is written in the first person. Please provide a brief artist statement.
Opt-in for Featured Artist*
One Featured Artist will be selected. Featured Artist will be featured on all marketing materials for the show and be asked to provide a short interview. Speaking at the show reception will be encouraged. The Featured Artist will receive a stipend.
Do you identify as an individual who has lived experience with mental illness?
Disclosure is optional and will not be used to determine eligibility for entering the show. This information will only be used for reporting demographics.
Additional Information

A panel of 6-8 judges provided by TMHA, SLO County Arts, and The Bunker will evaluate the art. Art selected will be on display at The Bunker during the month of May.
We ask that you read and initial the following items:

Initials*   I understand that TMHA, SLO County Arts Council, and The Bunker SLO are not liable for any loss, theft, or damage of my art piece(s). It is my responsibility to provide insurance for my piece should I want to be covered in the event of any loss, theft, or damage of my art piece(s).
Initials*   I understand that applying is not a guarantee for selection into the show. I understand this is a juried show and my piece may not be selected for display at The Bunker.
Initials*   I understand that art chosen for display at The Bunker is required to be for sale. If sold, The Bunker collects a 25% commission and the artist retains the remainder of the sale price.
Initials*   I understand I am submitting my art to a show specifically associated with mental health recovery and pictures of my art may be used in educational or promotional materials.
Initials*   I understand that if my art is chosen for display, I will need to complete a media release with Transitions-Mental Health Association.

3D Artists Only:
Initials   I understand that to be displayed in the show, my work must be formatted to hang on a wall and must not exceed a weight 30lbs or protrude more than 6 inches from the wall.
