Job Description:
Each Resident Assistant (RA) will be a full-time Concordia student that lives in residence and is responsible for overseeing a section of students.
The primary responsibility of the RA is to help foster a safe and welcoming community in residence through creative and educational programming and support each resident in achieving their academic, social, and personal goals.
RAs work on a team, under the supervision of a manager as part of the Residence Life department.
RAs are offered a variety of training and professional development opportunities throughout their year in Residence.
Resident Assistant are required to:
- Attend all meetings, trainings and workshops as assigned by the manager or designate.
- Assist with the check-in/check-out of residents to/from Residence, including working during the move-in week of August 23 to September 2, 2025, and the move-out period in May 2026.
- Dates to be determined & subject to change.
- Facilitate the Residence Welcome Week events and agree not to attend any frosh or student association activities for the duration of these activities and/or until classes begin.
- Assist with Concordia Open house in both the fall and winter terms.
- Follow a schedule of weekly/weekend duties and related responsibilities; attend all mandatory residence events as the Manager decides.
- Be available to work minimum 2-3 duty shifts per week, including one weekday and one weekend shift.
- Duty Shifts start at 4:30pm, 7pm, 8:30am and 9am (times are subject to change)
- Be available to work 1-2 office shifts per month
- Office shift start times vary
- Work with the Manager, Residence Life or designate to plan, organize and implement educational and leisure programming. Attend all residence mandatory events as decided by the Manager.
- Maintain a standard of conduct (personal and professional) and performance of duties that correspond with Residence Life’s community codes and the position and its responsibilities.
- Act as a mediator and resource person to all residents.
- Adhere to the confidentiality agreement.
- Complete paperwork promptly and efficiently, respecting deadlines set by management.
- Maintain and check an active email account and phone number for communication with the manager and residence life team.
- Adhere to and enforce all regulations concerning student conduct as per the Code of Community Living Standards and Discipline and the COVID-19 Addendum.
- Rely on training and department procedures during crisis/conflict situations.
- Remain a full time student at Concordia University.
- Maintain an academic grade point average of 2.50 or more – semester and cumulative.
- Plan holidays (including all statutory holidays and reading week) and time away from Residence with Community Facilitator and with approval from Manager, Residence Life.
- The only scheduled holiday is winter break. Dates to be determined.
- Complete all duties inherent to the position and those assigned by the Manager, Residence Life or designate.
- When possible, do not schedule academic classes and labs on Fridays.
- Continuing trainings will occur on Fridays throughout the semester and attendance is required. Continuing trainings will occur once a month and dates will be provided in advance.
Working Conditions & Physical Environment
- Duty shifts and programming will require working outside of normal working hours
- Duty shifts are in the evenings, and on the weekends (both evenings and days)
- Duty shifts include an on-call portion
- RA’s will be required to be mobile throughout the residence buildings on their campus as they will complete multiple rounds of each building
throughout their shift and respond to situations or student concerns
- Not all Residence Buildings have an elevator
- RA’s are responsible for the setup and take down of their programming events, promotional materials and passive programs and at times will need to carry residence life materials and equipment
- RA’s can be asked to work in any area/building of both campuses depending on department need
- RA’s are required to deal with residents under stress and probably in crisis during the academic year
- RA’s will be required to follow departmental COVID-19 protocols in regards to students in isolation or requiring meal deliveries
- RA’s require excellent level 4 English, both spoken and written
Training Requirements & Dates
- Achieve Basic First Aid and CPR certification by August 8th 2025 and must be valid for the duration of the contract.
- Attend Residence Life training program in August 2025 , dates to be determined.
- Coordinate with CF and Manager for Winter training dates in January 2026 (To Be determined)

Compensation details will be confirmed in the letter of offer.
