We will prepare your federal and requested state income tax returns based on the information you provide. While we do not perform a formal audit or forensic review, we will request clarification and supporting documents as needed to verify items such as income, expenses, residency, and dependent eligibility.
To assist in gathering complete information, we will provide questionnaires or worksheets. Using these tools helps reduce the risk of missing relevant details that may impact your return.
We may provide bookkeeping assistance if needed to complete the return. Additional bookkeeping services, if required, will be billed separately.
We will use our professional judgment in areas where tax law is unclear or where different interpretations exist. Unless otherwise instructed, we will resolve such questions in your favor whenever legally permissible.
Your Responsibilities as Taxpayer
You are responsible for providing accurate and complete information, including all sources of income, deductions, credits, and dependent information, in a timely manner. You must retain all documents that support the entries on your tax return, such as receipts, canceled checks, logs, and proof of residency or support for dependents.
We reserve the right to exclude deductions or credits that cannot be verified with sufficient documentation. You are also responsible for reviewing your tax returns before signing. Your signature confirms that all information is true, correct, and complete to the best of your knowledge.
IRS/State Review and Notice Handling
Your returns may be selected for review by the IRS or state taxing authorities. Any adjustments proposed by those agencies may be subject to appeal.
If you receive a tax notice related to a return we prepared, you may forward it to us. We will review it and, if you request assistance in responding, a notice handling fee of $75–$150 will apply depending on complexity.
Representation before the IRS or state agencies is not included in standard tax preparation services and requires a separate engagement and authorization.
Penalties and Legal Disclosures
Federal and state laws impose penalties for underreporting income or claiming unsupported deductions. If you have questions about the potential penalties that may apply to your situation, we will be happy to discuss them.
Fees for tax services are based on the complexity of the return and the forms required and are not determined by the individual preparer. Fees cover professional tax preparation services only, including time, expertise, analysis, consultation, and preparation of tax returns. Fees are earned once tax preparation work has begun or is completed, regardless of whether the return is electronically filed, paper filed, released to the client, or filed through another provider.
Electronic filing is provided at no additional charge. Filing a return is not the billable service; tax preparation is the service being purchased.
All invoices are due upon presentation. Payment must be received before any prepared return is filed, released, or delivered. Fees are not contingent upon the amount, timing, approval, or receipt of any tax refund.
If you elect to have fees deducted from your tax refund and those funds are not received for any reason, including rejection, delay, offset, interception, or client withdrawal, you remain fully responsible for payment of all fees. Any unpaid balance will be billed after 120 days and is due immediately.
By providing banking, debit, or payment information for direct deposit or payment purposes, you expressly authorize HB Financial Group to initiate ACH debits or charges to the account on file for tax preparation and related services rendered. This authorization applies even if you choose not to file your return, withdraw from services after preparation, decline to proceed, dispute your refund amount, or file your return elsewhere, and remains valid until all outstanding balances for services performed are paid in full.
Client acknowledges that dissatisfaction with fees, refund amounts, tax outcomes, or decisions not to file does not negate the obligation to pay for services rendered.
