  • OPTIONAL: SUPPLY FARM APPLICATION

    • SUPPLY FARM INFORMATION
    • What are supply products?

A supply product is a product grown and produced on a local farm that is not directly sold at an MFM-managed market by the farmer that produces it.  Rather, it is sold by farmer who participates as a farm vendor at an MFM-managed market.  At no time can supply products be supplied by a distributor, wholesale house, or any source other than the farm on which those products were grown and produced.

      Who is a supply farmer?

A supply farmer grows or produces a product on a local farm and supplies it to a farm vendor who then sells it in their booth at an MFM-managed market.

Why would I want to include supply products at my booth?

Supply products are allowed at the Copley Square, Kendall Square, Fish & Farm Market and Central Square Farmers Markets in order to ensure a vibrant, diverse, and consistent selection of goods for our visitors. The main reason supply is allowed is to provide "insurance" against factors affecting production that are outside the farm's control and allow them to maintain product availability when supply is low.

In addition to providing this safety net, supply products are allowed when they are not already produced by another vendor. These supplementary products add value to the market by increasing the overall selection available to visitors, which provides a more complete shopping experience.

Example of how supply products work:

Farmer Josephine runs a booth at the Copley Farmers Market.  She sells tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, green beans, and potatoes that she grows on her farm.

However, her customers have told her that they would really like to be able to buy spinach from her and she just can’t seem to grow that on her farm.

If she were to get spinach from another local farmer and sell it in her booth (with all of the proper approvals from MFM and proper signage), spinach would be a supply product.  The local farmer she gets the spinach from would be a supply farmer.

Note: All supply products and supply farmers must be explicitly applied for and approved by MFM.

Example: Farmer Josephine received approval from MFM to sell spinach from Acme Farms at her booth at Copley.  She can’t:

      • Sell arugula (either in addition to or instead of spinach) from Acme Farms at her booth at Copley (arugula is not one of her approved supply products)
      • Sell spinach from Sunrise Farm at her booth at Copley (Sunrise Farm isn’t one of her approved supply farmers)
      • Sell spinach from Acme Farms at her other booth at Central Square (she didn’t apply for or receive approval for any supply products or supply farmers for her booth at Central Square)

      Rules around Supply Products:
