In honor of Women’s History Month, OAC presents SHE - an exhibition highlighting women artists in all media. Work will be accepted that has been created by women, people who identify as a woman, or collaborations between a group of women.
Oliver Art Center is calling for art that highlights what it means to be a woman (and artist) in today’s world. We recognize that many see this as a challenging time in American history to be a woman. While the fight for equal rights has often been fraught, OAC respectfully asks artists to focus on aspects of positivity for this project: strength, resilience, creativity, supportive networks, and other positive aspects of womanhood.
This doesn’t mean we advocate ignoring a struggle/fight and possible trauma that women have experienced; but what we’d like to see in this show is work that inspires women by highlighting their strength and ingenuity, ability to build community and generate support, creatively problem-solve, and create and sustain life and beauty. Women can be anything and everything between nurturers and warriors. And all can be depicted in a positive light that highlights women's experiences.
