Burao Academy of Science and Technology is seeking a highly motivated and self-reliant English teacher to join our dedicated faculty for the 2025-2026 academic year. This position starts August 1, 2025 and ends in June 2026.

Burao Academy is a non-profit, coeducational boarding middle and high school serving grades 7-12. With a strong focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), the school prepares students from the Horn of Africa for success in the real world. Students develop a strong foundation in academics & solve complex problems. Burao Academy utilizes effective teaching methods such as common planning time, after class activities, and collaborative teacher approaches, to maximize student learning and achievements.

This Teaching Role Requires:

1. A bachelor's degree in the relevant field (English, math, or science)

2. Proven experience in teaching students at the appropriate level (proficiency in lesson planning, including the ability to assess and differentiate instructions that meet the diverse needs of students)

3. Excellent classroom management skills to maintain a positive and productive learning environment

4. Ability to effectively integrate technology into the teaching process, including the use of educational software, online resources, assessment tools and digital learning platforms.

5. Ability to resolve basic / complex problems as directed

6. Strong communication - excellent verbal and written communication skills (including the ability to communicate with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues effectively)

Job Responsibilities:

1. Teach either middle or high school (secondary) students approximately 26 lessons (45 minutes each) in-person per week

2. Prepare lesson plans, create student assessments, and record grades in Gradelink, school management database

3. Supervise evening study time of one hour per week

4. Attend weekly faculty meetings to share standards & practices across subjects

5. Be available for students’ office hours one hour per week to reinforce materials taught in the classroom

6. Be accountable for various subject academic progress in cooperation with other teachers

7. Develop & lead after-school club based on student & teacher inspired activities

Timeline: We are seeking a minimum commitment to complete the Burao Academy 2025-2026 academic year ending in June 2026. Conducting interviews now!
