Virtual VITA allows you to complete your tax return remotely while ensuring your information is secure. By proceeding, you agree to the following:

    Your Responsibilities

Answer all questions truthfully. Providing incorrect or fraudulent information may result in refusal of service now or in the future.

    Data Security

Virtual VITA protects your information by:

    • Using SSL encryption for all uploaded files
    • Limiting access to online registration forms
    • Deleting client documents once tax returns have been accepted by the IRS
    • Training all personnel in these security protocols
    • Complying with IRS VITA standards under federal oversight

    Information Sharing

Your tax return information will not be shared with third parties except for preparation and filing unless you give explicit consent. Federal law may not protect your information further if you consent to disclosure.

    Communication

United Way VITA staff may contact you by phone or email regarding your tax return only. Staff will always identify themselves as members of United Way’s VITA Program.

    Quality Review

You are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of your return.
During the quality review, you (and your spouse if applicable) must:

    • Participate in the review
    • Check that all information, including names, Social Security numbers, addresses, banking info, income, and expenses, is correct
    • Sign Form 8879 (IRS e-file Authorization) after review

    IRS Oversight

The IRS may randomly review VITA sites for quality. If errors are found, they will be corrected. The IRS does not retain personal information from your reviewed return. This oversight helps evaluate the accuracy of VITA/TCE programs.
