Overview
The Town of Appomattox Centennial Commission invites artists, students, and creative community members to participate in the Commemorative Seal Design Competition to celebrate the Town’s 100th anniversary. The winning design will serve as the official emblem of our Centennial year and will be featured on official publications, merchandise, and displays.
Prize
The winner will receive a $500 cash prize and recognition in Centennial celebrations, including a feature in local media and at public events.
Competition Guidelines
Theme
Designs should embody the spirit of the Town of Appomattox, highlighting themes such as:
- Our history and heritage [e.g., railroads, the town's founding, historic downtown]
- Community and shared vision for the future.
- Centennial motto:
“Blessed Are Those Who Plant Trees Under Whose Shade They Will Never Sit”. (THIS TEXT DOES NOT NEED TO APPEAR ON THE DESIGN).
Eligibility
Open to all individuals, including students, professional artists, and hobbyists.
Participants may submit only one design.
Design Requirements
- Format: Digital designs must be submitted in high-resolution PNG, JPG, or PDF format. Hand-drawn designs may be dropped off at the Town Office.
- Size: The seal should fit within a 6” x 6” (1:1 ratio)
- Content:
- Must include the text "Town of Appomattox” “Centennial" and "1925 - 2025".
- Color: Submissions may be in color, grayscale, or black and white. Avoid excessive detail to ensure the design translates well to various sizes and media.
Originality: Designs must be original and created specifically for this competition.

All entries must be received by February 5 at 11:59 PM EST.

Selection Process
- A panel of judges from the Centennial Commission will evaluate designs based on:
- Creativity and originality.
- Relevance to the Centennial theme.
- Visual appeal and adaptability for various uses.
- The winner will be announced on February 18.
- By submitting a design, participants grant the Town of Appomattox Centennial Commission the right to use the design in promotional and official materials.
