OUR 5 CRITICAL STAGES OF DRIVEWAY INSTALLATION

A quality driveway is only as good as the preparation and construction beneath it.

At STIMPSONS GPDB LTD, we combine over 26 years of traditional paving and groundwork experience with modern reinforced-gravel installation systems.

Our driveway projects can incorporate reinforced gravel alongside traditional block paving, paved aprons, entrance plinths, steps and decorative edging.

This combination allows us to create practical parking areas with defined entrances, attractive transitions and carefully considered finishing details.

Every property is different, so construction requirements are assessed individually.

1. EXCAVATION & GROUND PREPARATION

We excavate the proposed driveway area to an appropriate depth, removing unsuitable existing materials and preparing the ground for its intended use.

Particular attention is given to ground conditions, existing levels and the surrounding property.

2. EDGING, APRONS & PAVED FEATURES

Suitable perimeter restraints and paved features are constructed to support the driveway design and provide a defined, professional finish.

Depending on the project, this may include traditional block paving, paved entrance aprons, parking plinths, steps and decorative edging.

These features can provide practical transitions between reinforced gravel, existing paving, pathways and the highway.

3. STRUCTURAL SUB-BASE

A suitable structural sub-base is installed and compacted to create a stable foundation.

The construction is designed around the expected vehicle use, ground conditions and drainage requirements.

4. REINFORCED GRAVEL & TRADITIONAL PAVING

Our specialist cellular reinforcement grids are installed over the prepared foundation and filled with suitable decorative aggregate.

Where included in the design, traditional block paving and other paved features are installed using construction methods appropriate to their intended use.

The combination creates a driveway that balances the natural appearance of reinforced gravel with the definition and practicality of traditional paving.

5. FINISHING & FINAL INSPECTION

We complete the installation with attention to levels, transitions, edges and surrounding features.

The finished driveway is inspected before handover, with practical guidance provided on its use and ongoing care.

OPTION 1 – REINFORCED GRAVEL DRIVEWAYS

Our reinforced-gravel installations combine professional groundwork preparation, cellular reinforcement systems and decorative aggregate to create practical, attractive parking areas.

For straightforward installations, our current benchmark is approximately:

A standard installation generally includes excavation, waste removal, ground preparation, suitable geotextile, structural sub-base, bedding aggregate, cellular reinforcement grid, decorative gravel, standard perimeter restraint and finishing.

Final construction requirements are determined by the property and intended vehicle use.

OPTION 2 – REINFORCED GRAVEL WITH TRADITIONAL PAVING FEATURES

Many of our driveway projects combine reinforced gravel with traditional block paving to create a more individual finish.

Additional features may include:

• Paved entrance aprons
• Parking plinths
• Decorative block edging
• Paved steps and pathways
• Raised flower beds and feature borders

These elements are individually assessed and priced in addition to the reinforced-gravel area.

This allows us to design the driveway around the property rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach.

OPTION 3 – TRADITIONAL BLOCK PAVING

Where appropriate, we can also consider traditional block-paved driveway installations or extensions.

Our current benchmark for straightforward installations is approximately:

These figures are intended as an initial budget guide, not a fixed quotation.

Additional costs may apply for unusual ground conditions, restricted access, substantial drainage requirements, retaining structures, steps, walls, fencing, clearance or other bespoke features.

Where reinforced gravel and traditional paving are combined, each element will be measured and priced according to the proposed design.

Our experience in driveway and patio construction allows us to look beyond the surface and identify practical ways to improve what you already have.

OPTION 1 – PROFESSIONAL CLEAN

Ideal for driveways and patios that are structurally sound but affected by dirt, algae, moss and general weathering.

Our professional cleaning service includes a thorough surface clean and appropriate finishing work for the surface being treated.

A complimentary basic gutter clear is included with full driveway and patio cleaning projects, where safely accessible.

SURFACE RESET & WEED SUPPRESSION SYSTEM™

For suitable existing driveway surfaces, we also offer our Surface Reset & Weed Suppression System™.

This can include thermal weed treatment, surface maintenance and appropriate joint attention to help manage unwanted growth.

Our approach focuses on practical ongoing control rather than unrealistic promises of permanently weed-free paving.

PATIO RESTORATION

We also professionally clean and restore existing patios, including suitable natural stone and manufactured paving.

Where more extensive joint restoration is required, we can assess whether our resin jointing system is appropriate for the surface.

Patio restoration is individually assessed according to the paving type, condition and work required.

ROOFLINE REVIVALS

We also provide selected roofline cleaning and maintenance services, particularly during autumn and winter.

Where repairs or joint restoration are included, the extent of the work and any applicable workmanship guarantee will be confirmed in your quotation.

Because we are working with existing surfaces, their age, original construction and underlying condition can affect the results achievable.

WEEDS, MOSS & ONGOING MAINTENANCE

Outdoor surfaces remain exposed to weather, organic growth and natural movement.

No driveway or patio can realistically be guaranteed to remain permanently free from weeds, moss, algae or general weathering.

Our Surface Reset & Weed Suppression System™ is designed to help manage unwanted growth, rather than promise permanent prevention.

We can also provide suitable maintenance and refresh services when required.
