The SCP Youth Soccer Francisco Silva Memorial Scholarship has been established to celebrate and remember the life of Francisco Silva, also known as Chico. This scholarship was created to honor the enduring legacy of Chico, a passionate and dedicated soccer player within the Luso soccer community in the Tri-State Area.
Born in Portugal, Chico immigrated to the United States in the late 1970s and quickly became a fixture in local soccer community, including Sport Club Portuguese, Barriadinos and others. His love for the game extended beyond personal play, as he was a mentor to younger players, a reliable teammate, and a knowledgeable student of the sport.
Chico's passion for soccer was matched only by his love for his family. He was a loving husband, adored father, and cherished grandfather. His commitment to his family was evident in every aspect of his life, and his memory continues to inspire those who knew him best.
In addition to his contributions to local soccer clubs, Chico played in leagues such as L.I.S.A and the Interstate Italian American Soccer League. His skill and dedication on the field were unmatched, and his presence is still deeply missed by all who had the privilege of playing alongside him.
To ensure that Chico's memory and passion for soccer live on, the Chico Memorial Scholarship was created. This scholarship serves as a tribute to a man who gave so much to his community and his sport, and it will continue to support future generations of soccer players as they pursue their own dreams on the field.
