  • Thank you for your interest in Space City Anarchist Organization! Please read the following instructions so that we can ensure that your application gets processed in a timely manner.

We ask that all applicants use the signal messenger app so that we can securely reach out to you regarding your application. Other contact information is fine so long as it is not a personal phone number.

While you don't need to be a committed anarchist to join SCAO, we require interested applicants to agree to the following points of unity in order to join the organization. Authoritarians of any stripe, cops, or abusers are not tolerated in our spaces and will not be eligible for membership within the organization.

Before applying to join Space City Anarchist Organization, we require you to review and agree with our points of unity, and adhere to the guiding principles of our organizations. If your application is approved and you join the committee, we expect the following:

    * Adhere to the points of unity and guiding principles

    * Participate in planning events and voting

    * Attend general meetings when able, and read the notes you miss

    * Participate in projects and events based on your availability and interest

If you do not feel you can fulfill these requirements but still want to contribute to the work we do, please consider volunteering for Houseless Distro or donating to our projects on our OpenCollective! We also emphasize that organizing does not require any special skills or talents and we can train any willing person to do any of the things we do.

  • Unfortunately, we do not allow people under the age of 18 to join the organization. However, we encourage anarchist youth in the Greater Houston Area to self-organize. If any such youths wish to organize such a collective, reach out to us!

  • Points of Unity

  • 1) Feminism: We are first and foremost a feminist organization with no tolerance for misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, machismo or abuse of any kind. We have no tolerance for power imbalances that enable oppression of marginalized genders.

    2) Anti-Capitalism: We reject capitalism and all its forms of exploitation, oppression, and domination that enable the owning class to profit off of the oppressed.

    3) Anti-Authoritarianism: There is no collaboration with the state or overt authoritarian organizations. We stand in opposition to state repression of dissent and infiltration of our movements.

    4) Respect for Diversity of Tactics: The struggle and resistance against our oppressors can not be limited by one strategy or tactic, and we must embrace the full diversity of thoughts and ideas that empower individuals to achieve freedom and self-determination.

    5) Intersectionality: Our struggles fundamentally intersect with each other. Our organization is a place where people of color, queer people, trans people, women, neurodivergent, disabled people, and anyone else that belongs to a marginalized group has their perspective valued and prioritized.

    6) Anti-Racism: We are an organization that is fundamentally anti-racist. White supremacy, anti-blackness, anti-indigenity, and other forms of oppression that extend from the dynamic of race are not tolerated.

    7) Disability Justice: Our society prioritizes productity over our well-being. It is important that our bodies are deserving of protection, and that our organization takes care of those that society leaves behind.

  • Guiding Principles

  • 1) Horizontalism: We understand that all forms of oppression extends from the authority of person over person, and person over nature. Hierarchy extends from this domination, and we fundamentally oppose the concentration of power that allows individuals to exploit, oppress, and dominate their fellow beings and nature. We seek to build horizontal structures based on consensus and direct democracy.

    2) Ecology: We must work towards restoring the balance of ecological systems that have been destroyed or damaged as a result of human domination of nature. We must emphasize that we are not simply separated from nature. Our communities will suffer if we do not take care of our environment.

    3) Dual Power: Power cannot come from voting and participating in structures that the system sets up. Capitalism can not meet all the needs of our communities. We aim to create a system which serves people, instead the greed of an owning class. Our economic goal should be to give optimal control of production and distribution of all things to the people. We seek to abolish the production of commodities for the purpose of profit and replace it with a system based on ability and need. In other words, an economy that's based on solidarity and care, instead of competition and greed.

    4) Community Defense: Our communities can not rely on the police or the military for the defense of our communities. Any militarized organ of the state will put the interests of the ruling class over our communities. We support and encourage oppressed communities to defend themselves from White Supremacy and all other systems of oppression. Community Defense requires more than being armed with guns; It rather means that we must be armed with the knowledge of our oppression and how to fight it, having trust and compassion for others in our communities, caring for our mental and physical health, lastly, a sincere desire to be free from oppression.

    5) Collective Liberation: We are not free so long as members of our communities are still oppressed by interlocking systems of oppression. To achieve collective liberation, we must recognize that marginalized communities know the realities of their oppression best, and they must be unconditionally supported in their struggle for liberation. This also means centering those who face oppression and ensuring nobody is abandoned by those who are more privileged.
