KNOTTY VALENTINE SESSION!

Create a "knotty" Valentine with like-minded creative artists. We'll learn ways to use gouache and colored pencils to make illustrations inspired from MS 12148, a 9th century Zoomorphic of kissing and cuddling knotted fish unabashedly exhibiting their mutual bubbling affections for you to illustrate.

Jump into creative waters and illuminate your passion for painting in a medium of your choice. We'll paint, bond and experiment with demonstrations and techniques.

Whether you're a seasoned scribe or a curious newbie, this is your chance to unleash your inner artist—no lettering experience required!
All ability levels welcome.

Registered students will receive a pattern to start out with prior to classtime.

Supplies
This is a basic list - please use what supplies you already have.

1. Good Internet connection with at least 30 Mbps and current version of Zoom on a computer or iPad. Phone connection is NOT recommended.
2. Brushes
   Must be round and POINTED (A good point is essential).
        • Small brushes (#1 round) and varying sizes (use what you have).
3. Cardboard backing & Tape
   for mounting project paper to while you work. Risa uses a pizza box top.
4. Palette - 6-well or use what you have.
5. Project Paper*
   Arches Text Wove or 90# Watercolor paper 8.5" x 5.5”
6. Pigments - Gouache, Watercolor or Colored Pencils - Use what you have.
                      Dr. Ph. Martins Bleed Proof White
7. Laser Toner Printer - must accommodate project paper choice.
   Laser Toner IS recommended because toner doesn’t react with water media.
   Ink Jet (dye-based) printers will react with water media, smears and is NOT Recommended.
   Printing Alternative - Take the supplied pattern and project paper to a self-service toner-based printer/copier at a local office supply store to print the pattern directly on to your paper choice.

Optional but Handy:
• Hands free magnifiers
• Gold mica watercolor

• 18-sheet pack Arches Text Wove 12.25” x 13-5/16"
• Alternative paper choices students have used successfully:
• Saunders Waterford watercolor
• Hahemuhle Cezanne - Cold Press - 140lbs
• Rives BFK (Very soft and whiter than Arches Text Wove
• Bienfang 90 lb, 146 gm/acid free/fine surface
• Khadi watercolor paper
• VPCo Crown paper from Vintage Paper Co,
• Hahnemühle Bugra
• Fabriano 90 lb. watercolor paper
