Found an echidna or bandicoot digging on your adventures? Take some pictures, measure (in cm) the length, width and depth of the digging and upoad your findings here.
The images and measurements that you upload here will help build a library of echidna diggings and be used in a model to differentiate between echidna and bandicoot diggings. This resource will assist landowners in identifying the presence of echidnas on their properties, aid naturalists in their outdoor adventures, and help differentiate echidna diggings from those made by bandicoots, which can be similar in appearance.
Not sure if its an echidna digging? Thats ok, you can still upload it here and we will do our best to help you ID what creature made the digging!
Have you observed an echidna in the wild? For SEQLD observations, please report your sighting to Echidna Watch (alive and deceaded observations welcome): Echidna Watch
For elsewhere, upload to iNaturalist.
Observed echidna behaviour in the wild? Let us know by contacting k.duttonregester@uq.edu.au. We still have much to learn about echidna ecology and every observation helps!
