  • The Green Gift Graduate Research Award is designed to support graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in STEM, emphasizing research in environmental science and natural resources. Recognizing the financial pressures that often affect graduate students, this one-time $1,000 award aims to alleviate some of that strain, allowing students to focus on their research.

    The award seeks to encourage high-quality contributions to the fields of science, particularly those with a strong potential for positive community impact. By recognizing the merit and potential impact of applicants’ research topics, the Green Gift Graduate Research Award helps foster the next generation of scientists, providing crucial support to emerging leaders in STEM. This initiative not only aids students in their academic pursuits but also contributes to advancing research that drives innovation.

    Recipients of the Green Gift Graduate Research Award will be asked to present their current or proposed research, with a focus on the potential impact it can have or has had on the community. This presentation will provide an opportunity for awardees to share how their work is contributing to positive change and community betterment, further emphasizing the societal value of their research.

    The Green Gift Graduate Research Award highlights the importance of research and innovation in advancing our economy and our quality of life. Through this award, we are investing in the development of future STEM leaders who will drive change, enhance sustainability, and promote scientific advancements for the betterment of society.

  • Eligibility

    Applicants must meet each of the following eligibility conditions:
  • Must be a citizen or national of the United States. (Note: A “national of the United States” is a citizen of the United States or a native resident of a possession of the United States such as Guam or American Samoa. It does not refer to a citizen of another country who is a U.S. permanent resident. U.S. permanent residents are not eligible for The Green Gift Research award).

    Must be pursuing or plan to pursue a graduate degree in one of the following fields: mathematics, science (life or physical sciences, computer science, behavioral sciences, or social sciences), technology, or engineering.

    Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

    Must physically plan to attend an accredited, degree-granting institution in the state of Alabama during the Fall semester of 2025. (Note: Students must be planning to attend graduate school in the Fall of 2025 to be eligible.)

    Must be committed to completing a graduate degree program.

    Must be willing to participate in an award ceremony.

  • Graduate students will receive a one-time $1000 award based on the merit and impact of their research topic. Awards will be allocated to award recipients during the award ceremony.

    The completed application must be submitted through our online application form before our final deadline at 11:59 pm on Sunday, June 15th, 2025. Award recipients will be notified on or before July 30th, 2025.
