Echoes of Emulsion - March 2025

Flemington DIY is pleased to host the analog photography exhibition “Echoes of Emulsion” throughout the month of March 2025. This exhibition aims to bring together and celebrate New Jersey based photographers who carry on the legacy of analog photographic traditions! The theme is open to all subject matter, ranging from everyday life to the abstract, keeping in mind the audience of our space which is ALL-AGES. 

The submission period will be open from January 17 through February 9, 2025. Participants can choose to be considered for our Shutter Stories program on the evening of March 12 where participating photographers will have 15 minutes to present a body of work via slideshow + discussion. More information will be provided if you are selected to participate. 

Photographs must be dropped off on one of the following dates. All works must be framed and wired for hanging using our STAS hanging system (please, no sawtooth hangers).

• February 13, 11:30-6pm
• February 18, 11:30-6pm 
• February  20, 11:30-6pm 
• February 23, 12-3pm
• February 25, 11:30-6pm

ENTRY FEES:

• $10 per entry with a maximum of three entries per participant
• Payment must be made by credit card or PayPal at the time of submission

PROCEDURE:

• Submit entries at flemingtondiy.org/echoes by 11:59PM February 9, 2025 
  Submit in JPG form, no larger than 10 MB
• Please name the file: lastname_firstname_##.jpg (Example: doe_jane_01.jpg)
• Title, medium, framed work dimensions 
• Framed artwork must not exceed 20” in any dimension, including frame.
• Provide a short blurb about the photograph (optional)

PLEASE NOTE:

• All images must have been shot using analog mediums/techniques, but can be printed using digital methods (example: 35mm negatives scanned digitally and printed digitally are acceptable). Traditional printing processes are also welcome. Think: 35mm, medium format, large format, polaroid/instant film, pinhole, cyanotypes, photograms…

IMPORTANT DATES: 

• Submission portal opens: January 17, 2025
• Submission portal closes: February 9, 2025 
• Notification of acceptance: February 10, 2025 
• All artworks received by: February 25, 2025 
• Exhibition opens: March 1, 2025
• Opening Reception: March 1, 5pm-7pm
• Shutter Stories: March 12, 6-8pm
• Exhibition closes: March 31, 2025
• Artwork picked up no later than: April 30, 2025 
  *Pickup dates will be on Tues/Thurs in April between 11:30-6pm

AGREEMENTS:

• Flemington DIY reserves the right to disqualify any delivered work that differs substantially from the online submission, does not meet guidelines, is not suitable for an all-ages community space, or is not in exhibition-ready form.
• Artists retain the copyrights to their own images. Artists whose work is chosen for exhibition inclusion grant Flemington DIY permission to use images for promoting the exhibition, the artist, or Flemington DIY and its programs. Images may be placed on Flemington DIY’s website, on social media for promotion and features, in emails, and printed materials
• Artwork will not be made available for sale during this exhibition
  The artist is completely responsible for the insurance of their work for the duration of the show. Flemington DIY will not be held liable for any damage, theft or accidental destruction of submitted works. 
• Artwork must be picked up at the conclusion of the show by the above listed date. Any artworks not retrieved within 30 days of the conclusion of the exhibition will become property of Flemington DIY  
• Submission of work and application indicates acceptance of all terms and agreements in this document and in the Agreements section of the application.
