McColl Center is seeking artists who are skilled in their discipline, have experience with teaching, and are interested in working with young students in rising grades 1st to 6th during the 2025 Creativity Camp season.
Job Description and Duties
- Develop an age-appropriate lesson plan for your week of camp which focuses on process over product and allows for flexibility based on students skill levels and interests.
- Provide a detailed supply list that fits into the provided budget.
- Create a welcoming, supportive, and engaging environment for all students.
- Manage students in your classroom to ensure a productive and enjoyable experience for all participants.
- Delegate tasks and communicate with Camp Assistants and volunteers to keep camp moving smoothly.
- Work alongside the Creativity Camp Coordinator and Youth Programs Director to communicate with parents as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience and knowledge of working with children; particularly how to engage with and manage a group of students.
- Ability to create a curriculum and adapt it as needed to suit the needs of the class.
- Communicate in an effective and timely manner.
- Ability to delegate tasks and maintain control of the classroom. Experience in classroom management and conflict resolution is a plus.
- Maintain trust and professionalism within the organization.
- Ability to take initiative while following guidelines set up by McColl Center staff.
Details
- Teaching Artists are required to be on campus from 8:30-4:30. Camp runs Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Punctuality is a necessity.
- Teaching Artsits will receive an hour’s break for lunch from 12:00-1:00 pm (unpaid) during which they may leave campus.
- Compensation for Teaching Artists is a flat rate of $1,400 for the week ($35 per hour for 35 hours of class + 5 hours of planning time). The exception to this is Digital Illustration, which provides compensation of $1,200 due to the closure of camp on June 19th.
- All camp instructors will have a Camp Assistant to help manage the classroom and assist with various tasks.
