Food Science & Technology (Thursday May 8th 8:00 AM-12:00 PM and/or 1:00 PM-6:00 PM)
-Students complete individual components related to food safety, sensory evaluation and knowledge/math tests in the morning. In the afternoon, students work as a team to design a new food product based on a given scenario. Volunteers are needed in the am to assist with replenishing samples for student testing. Volunteers with a food science background are needed in the afternoon to evaluate team presentations.
Agricultural Communications (Friday May 9th 8:00AM-2:30 PM):
-Participants attend a press conference; utilize information gathered in a team activity and complete individual practicums in design, electronic media and writing. Students are also tested on editing and other communications skills. Judges are needed to evaluate written practicums as well as team presentations. A communications background would be beneficial but not a requirement.
Agricultural Sales (Saturday, May 10th 7:00 AM-2:00 PM and/or 2:00 PM-5:00 PM)
-Individual team members then utilize their skills in information gathering to sell a pre-selected product to one of the customer types. Judges would take on the role of a potential client that students would sell their product to.
Spanish Creed (Thursday, May 8th 11:30AM-1:30 PM)
FFA members are recognized for their ability to memorize and present the FFA Creed then answer questions on the meaning and purpose of the Creed. Judges are needed that are bilingual in Spanish and English.
Employment Skills (Thursday, May 8th 7:30 AM- noon and/or 1:00 PM-5:00 PM)
Students complete a fifteen minute interview, networking activity, follow-up correspondence, and a phone interview. Judges would serve as a potential employer for one of the listed activities.
Marketing Plan (Thursday, May 8th 1:30 PM-5:00 PM)
Teams research and develop a marketing plan for an agricultural product, supply or service. The teams then present their solution for marketing problems to a panel of judges. The FFA members are evaluated on the various parts of the marketing plan, including market analysis, business proposition, action plan, budget management, evaluation and the effectiveness of their presentation.
FARM for Kids (Saturday, May 10th, 12:30 PM-5:00 PM)
The F.A.R.M. for Kids career development event challenges chapters to educate elementary students on the importance of agriculture. Participants must create an informative presentation that is designed to be fun, educational, and grade-level appropriate. Would be a great opportunity for students pursuing or faculty with a background in elementary education.
Agricultural Issues Forum (Friday, May 9th, 7:00 AM-11:30 AM)
This team event challenges students to investigate a variety of current local, state, national and international issues facing agriculture through classroom instruction. Students then demonstrate through portfolio, presentation and questioning an understanding of the principles and fundamentals of agricultural issue analysis. Judges are needed to evaluate our final presentations. A knowledge and/or interest in current agricultural issues is needed.
