Audible, Visible, Olfactory (AVO) Inspection; Can you hear, see or smell a leak?
If a leak (detectable emission) is found during the inspection, you need to log how the leak was found, the type of component, and a brief description of the leak. You have 15 calendar days to address the leak and confirm the repair was successful. If the leak isn’t immediately addressed when found, it must be labeled/flagged in some way. Once the leak is repaired, you have to log how and when the leak was repaired, as well as the method the leak was confirmed repaired.

Method 22 Observation

SMOKE EMISSION OBSERVATION FOR TANK FLARE OR ECD
Method 22 is an OOOOb required observation of location emission control device/s (e.g. Flare/s, Combustor/s) over a 15-min period. Any visible smoke, regardless of opacity, from any control device on location cannot exceed 1-min in cumulative duration during the 15-min period. All Method 22 Emission Control Device Observations are to be submitted at the pad level, unless the facility is a single well location. The method recommends that you stand no closer than 15 feet and no farther away than ¼ mile from the source you want to observe. Pick a spot where the sunlight is not shining directly into your eyes. Steam and other forms of condensed water vapor are not emissions.
