About Elder Mother Cristeen Horton:
Elder Mother Cristeen Horton was born January 6, 1923, in Amite County, MS, the second of six children and only daughter of Charlie and Mary Landrew. She was educated in the Amite County public school system and moved to Pike County in the mid-1940s, making McComb her home.
In 1955, Mother Horton was "born again," accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.
Mother Horton was called by God to preach in the late 1950s and was ordained a minister by the late Reverend Susan Robertson of Saint Catherine Spiritual Church No. 1 of New Orleans, LA. After her ordination she founded Saint Catherine Spiritual Church No. 2 in McComb in 1961. In 1970, she was called to pastor Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Crystal Springs, MS. She remained a faithful and devoted pastor to both churches until her death. In 2007, she commissioned the establishment of Saint Catherine Spiritual Church No. 3 in Gaithersburg, MD; as well as other church establishments in CA, WI, MS and LA.
Mother Horton was one of the first major female pastors in southwest Mississippi. Through the gift of prayer, prophesy and counseling, she touched many lives. People traveled from far and near to find the red and white tractor tires on Highway 51 South of McComb. Her love for people produced lifelong relationships that remained until her death.
