What kind of accommodation is needed to host camp staff?
We ask that you provide a bed, couch, futon or air mattress for each camp staff. We also ask that you provide internet access for camp staff to contact their families and friends back home. Each staff must have their own sleeping spot (but don't have to have their own room).
How many camp staff will I host?
Host families are asked to host at least 2 staff at one time. After that, it depends on how many you can accommodate in your home and how many you would like to host at once. Please indicate this number in the application.
Where are camp staff from?
International camp staff are from all over the world! Countries might include: Australia, England, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Scotland, and South Africa, etc.
Where will I pick-up the camp staff?
Host families will pick-up camp staff at the Nashville International Airport (BNA). When you sign up to be a Host Family, you can indicate what times your family is available to pick staff up from the airport.
More information about arrival times will be communicated to you once staff have made travel plans.
How long will the camp staff stay at my home?
Most camp staff arrive in the Nashville area 4-5 days before they begin working at camp. Camp staff may reach out for host assistance during our week break from July 1st – 6th. Host Families are also welcome to host their camp staff on a weekend or two during the summer.
What is expected of host families?
Please see the information packet (available here) for more detailed information. However, we ask that your family help your camp staff to feel comfortable in a new environment. Most staff members will have jetlag, and many will need a chance to rest at the beginning. All staff will need to contact friends or family back home (e-mail, Facetime, etc.) to let them know they have arrived safely. Some may want to take a trip to a local store to pick-up last-minute supplies for camp. And some may appreciate some local sightseeing! You will communicate with the international staff you will be hosting prior to their arrival.
Where will I drop off the camp staff at the end of their stay?
Camp staff will need to be dropped off at a camp depending on their position. Some might be at a camp different than where they are working for training. When you sign up to be a Host Family, you can indicate which camps your family is available to travel to.
